    A7/A6 o2 sensor removal?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
To anyone who has removed the o2 sensors on the 3.0t with the cats still on the car, how did you do it? I cannot find a write up anywhere. The only video I found was a guy removing the cats then o2 sensors after. From the looks of it, doing it from the top is the way to go, but what did you guys use? Barely any room to turn a wrench in there is there any other tool you recommend? Or tips? And let me also clarify I just need to remove the sensor itself not the plug connector, I am installing spacers. Any help is appreciated

I have not done the sensors on my A7 but a previous Jeep I had the sensor was a real PITA to turn. I tried the special O2 sensor socket with the wall cut out and it would just flex and slip. I finally broke it free with a solid uncut 6 point socket. You have to cut the wire off but since you are replacing because it’s likely bad then no biggie. The new will go in easily with the O2 socket with the wall cut for the wire.

Haven't done it either, but the manual said to remove the intake tube and loosen the coil pack harness to get access to the passenger side O2. For the drive side, move the coolant reservoir out of the way to access the O2.

Thanks Maybe I should look at the manual actually. Not sure what to use. It’s a tight space even with the harness moved a bit.

I had an emissions code for the O2 sensor - I didn't remove it, but rather had an O2 spacer placed. Wasn't too expensive for the shop to do it, but id imagine the manual has a good workaround.

That’s exactly what I need done lol I guess it wouldn’t hurt to get a quote either

Is anybody able to post a page of the manual? I did VC gaskets today and tried to reach the passenger rear o2 from the top but even with the harness out the way I can’t turn the wrench I need some ideas. Driver side looks even harder. Is anyone doing it from the bottom?

    SUPPLIES NEEDED

    PB BLASTER

    SUPER LONG 3/8 extension
    Like this or similar

    TEKTON 3/8 Inch Drive x 24 Inch Socket Extension | SHA11124 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R5C8RR9..._0mmnEb3QNR5SJ

3/8 drive o2 socket for 7/8 or 22mm o2 sensors (also available at oreilleys)

ARES 70039-3/8-Inch Drive by 7/8-Inch (22mm) Offset Oxygen Sensor Socket - Wire Gate Accesses Sensor from Side, Preventing Damage to Wires https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C4OB3XC..._BnmnEbDMEDME6

    STEPS
    Passenger side

first remove intake hose. This is all you need to love but I took the whole airbox out for more space

The manual mentions moving the spark plug harness but it was not necessary.

Spray PB blaster all over o2 sensor and wait a bit, at least 10min

Put the extension into the socket and the socket around the o2 sensor and use a strong ratchet to break the o2 sensor free and voila
    Passenger side is out

    DRIVER SIDE

remove coolant reservoir, only a flathead is needed to pull the clips out of each hose clamp, even the one on the bottom of the reservoir
    Unplug coolant temp sensor

Same thing, spray pb blaster on rear o2 and wait then break it free with the socket

Then voila put it together with or without o2 spacers depending on your goals.

Another side note is that the manual mentions using that set of regular open wrenches, well I can tell you they are smoking crack and have some sort of super powers if they got it off using those, it would be nearly impossible. Nearly. But if you do it this way it’s easy.
