A4 B8 Quattro 2011 remove passenger side CV without removing pinch bolt?

Got the driver's side done, now the passenger side.

Can it be done without removing the pinch bolt at the upper control arms?

The heat shield is in the way currently, can that be removed?

I've always removed the pinch bolt, but I'm sure you could do it by removing the bottom arms.

If you remove the disk, you can see 3 bolts that hold the shield on.

The pinch bolt is frozen. Not ready to open that can of worms, yet.

Not sure what you mean by "remove the disk", please clarify.

    Thanks for your response.

Remove the caliper> remove this goofy screw> remove the disk. You'll see the screws that hold the shield on there. As I'm typing this I wonder if you are talking about a different heat shield? I don't remember a heat shield that's in the way...unless you're talking about removing the axle from the front differential. If you have long enough extensions you can sneak underneath that.

Try heating the aluminum around the bolt for at least 5 min or so and hitting it with s impact at the same time. And soak with lots pb before obviously.

If pinch bolt for upper control arms is frozen don’t mess with it, can become a nightmare quickly.
Does drive shaft bolt onto transmission output shafts or is it a male spline that goes into transmission?
Usually I disconnect lower ball joint and tie rod end so you can swing hub away to get driveshaft out of wheel bearing

I was able to do mine because I was doing the wheel bearing at the same time, but even then clearance is very limited.

No spline. Inner CV joint bolts on to a dinner plate coming out of the front diff.

One youtube vid I remember watching when I was planning for doing my wheel bearings showed the guy simply cranking the steering wheel and holding it at full turn while another guy simply pulled the axle out of the wheel bearing (axle bolt already off of course) towards the rear. So you'd crank it full left in your case. So it would seem possible, but not sure how good that is for the outer CV joint. I removed my pinch bolt when I did mine since it had no corrosion.

If you're doing a boot, it might be easier with the axle removed, and it's simply six bolts that connect the axle to the flange shaft. They are easy to remove (well, on my southern car). But like the axle bolt (200Nm+180°) and bearing bolts (80Nm+90°), they are replace if removed with a tightening spec of 70Nm (no additional turn). https://www.genuineaudiparts.com/oem...bolt-n90441103

Even the pinch bolt and nut are replace if removed. Damn you Audi, cheap bastards.

Let me be the first one to say that I rarely if ever replace any suspension bolts unless they either A) come with new ones with the part or B) are head bolts. I always loctite everything (blue) and replace any locknuts that go on anything depending on the type of nut. Nylon locknuts can usually be reused a couple times, but most of the ones audi uses are the distorted thread type which should be replaced. That's coming from someone who is super paranoid about things coming apart too.

Driven Audis for over 30 years. I couldn't begin to count how many pinch bolts I've reused. I do measure my torque on that...I'm far more afraid of breaking that alloy casting than I am afraid of reusing a hardened bolt.

for real lol the casting for that pinch bolt is probably the weakest point on the car
