I recently got a B8.5 S4 and moved the Anker Roav DashCam C1 that I had installed in my previous vehicle over to the Audi. The Roav is powered by plugging it into a USB port, and since the Audi didn't have one I had to come up with something. I was going to find the fuse block, connect some jumpers, and wire-in a cigarette lighter socket behind the dash so that I could plug in one of those little cig lighter USB chargers. But then I thought of a better way...
I bought an AMI to USB adapter that supported charging (not all of them do, apparently) and wired it quickly and easily. Mounted it behind the rear view mirror and tucked the cable into the little plastic cover for the mirror wires, then tucked behind the headliner, down behind the A-pillar trim, and right down into the glove box. Wire is totally hidden. The only part that was a slight challenge was getting the end of the cable threaded through the hole in the top of the glove compartment housing. I did this by first removing the plastic panel on the side of the dash, then inserting a stiff wire up through the hole in the top of the glove box housing until I could see and grab it from the side panel opening. Then I securely taped the end of the USB cable to the wire and pulled it back down through the hole. The USB plug is kind of fat, so it took some wiggling and pushing to get it to fit through there. Once everything was connected, I shoved the cable up into the little netted pocket on the top of the glove box and then bundled the excess cable length and just wedged it inside above the fuse blocks. Snapped the side panel back on and done.
