    No noticeable supercharger whine?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Not sure why, but on my 2014 S4 that I just got, I cant even hear any supercharger whine inside the car when I get on it?? Every youtube video Ive seen of this car even with just an intake, has noticeable whine from inside the car while driving. I have a IE intake with silicone tube, IE stage 1 tune, and APR exhaust, so technically my supercharger should whine pretty loud right?? Any answers or solutions are welcome 🙏

I was doing some reading....is it possible that maybe the tensioner and idler pulley for the supercharger belt need replaced? Im just wondering if the blower is quieter due to lack of proper tension on the belt?

If the tensioner was bad. I think the belt would make a lot of noise. I say find a tunnel and roll down the window push on her at around 4k if you don't hear anything whining there's somthing wrong. I never had a stock s4 but mines loud at 4+

Is it a closed or open intake? If closed I wouldn't expect it to be that much louder.

That's definitely no normal. I'd get it checked out. I have the IE intake and the supercharger whine is VERY noticeable at anything above 3K RPM. Are you sure that the supercharger is even working?

I'd get that looked at ASAP.

If it's open it should be noticable. Can you take an acceleration video or something? Agree that at stage 2 or DP it is more noticeable, but with an open intake I would expect it to be pretty loud either way.

If the charger wasn't functioning you would feel very low on power and you don't mention that at all. Could be something like the bypass is stuck open, but would think you would get a code for that.

How would I know if the bypass is stuck open if its not throwing a code? Just wondering if its something I could fix myself?

@nowakm99....the guy I got it from just changed the supercharger belt at 50k miles and has documentation of it. Im thinking if the supercharger wasnt working, hopefully they would have picked up on it when they changed the belt 😧. It was done by an Audi/VW specialty shop in Tysons Corner

I removed my Roc Euro intake to change my spark plugs and when I put it all back together the whine was totally different. A lot less than it was, I even made a thread about it. I think the intake just wasn't tightened all the way onto the throttle body because after I took it back off and put it back on it sounded normal again. Check all your intake connections just to be sure.

I would second this. I got my S4 last November, and for about 2 weeks in December I had a Luft-Technik intake installed. I was very disappointed with the volume of the SC whine. I couldn't hear it at all stock, and could barely hear it with the intake installed. I knew I had some work coming up at the dealer over the spring/summer, so I took it off until I was out of warranty last month. Once the intake was back on, it seemed much louder than I recall from last year. I didn't really do anything different, but I can definitely hear it better under hard acceleration. Still disappointing compared to my Hellcat, but better. I'll be putting on my supercharger pulley in the next couple weeks, so I'm looking forward to that.

I don't really know why I like supercharger whine, I just know that I do! Ever since hearing the old 03-04 Terminator Cobras, I knew some day I needed some good SC whine in my life.

If it wasn’t spinning you would know. The car would run crap and probably be throwing codes. Stock the SC is almost silent. Buy an intake. There’s like 30 before and after youtube videos of people installing intakes.

I took a listen to the vid you sent over, it was kind of hard to tell because it seemed like you weren't accelerating much as you went past the camera, but I initially you could hear it a little. If you can get one with hood open, and maybe one from inside the car.

First thing I did was a silicone tube, made it a little louder but not significant, so I don't buy the shop saying it acts as a muffler.

After that, putting a hole in the airbox, more noise, and then open intake where there shouldnt be any question.

He has an intake and is concerned because he feels like it doesn't seem loud enough compared to what was anticipated, or compared to others.
