Hi every one im new to this forum. Im having some pretty severe issues with my wifes a4. Today the car went in to limp mode. I dont have a vagcom yet but i pulled codes with my generic scanner and got p1600 ECU fault and p0100 MAF circuit malfunction. Everything i have read points at an ECU, but what i dont understand is why would it randomly fail with no warning. If i do infact need an ECU is there any way to program it with out taking it to the dealer? Also is there any way to do a proper diag on it? I am having trouble finding anything in regards to the computer being bad other then "visually inspect wiring and connections" and having this code. Im hesitant to just put an ecu with out being posotive its it.

it is not unusual for the mass airflow sensor to goo bad.
sometimes just taking it out and cleaning it with degreaser can work.
