    Driving without cluster issues?

I have a failed instrument cluster that I am thinking of sending to Speedosolutions to be repaired. The person I talked to who was super knowledgeable said the car can be driven with out it which since the car can't communicate with the cluster.

Does anyone see any issues? Just trying to decide if I need a rental car for the few days it is down.

    Thanks.

My concern would be inaccurate mileage. So i wouldnt attempt it.

Well now the speedo and rev's are acting up so it is basically like driving without a cluster... ha. My understanding is it just an output device in this generation.

Thinking this will go to Tom tomorrow for diagnosis whom seems super knowledgable and helpful.

Interesting to find out, as previous models had the immobilizer in there.
I just assumed that the car would not start with instrument cluster removed, love to have a definitive answer.

Car will start and run ok without cluster, immobilizer not related with cluster on b8(2008-16).

So cluster is out and packed up. Car drives fine without the cluster. Going to only drive it if necessary still.

Kind of weird Audi locks you out of Being able to adapt millage on a used cluster and puts component protection on them but you can drive without it. Ohh well.

Sending to Tom from speedo solutions and hoping to he can work some magic. Seems like a knowledgeable guy and can do a lot of stuff Audi won’t do.

Just thought I would post an update. Tom from Speedosolutions did a great job getting my cluster back up and running for a reasonable cost. Plugged it back in, cleared codes and all is good now. Nice to not have a black hole in the middle of my dash.

When you plugged you cluster back in did the mileage update or was it the same mileage when you pulled the cluster out?
