Hey, just got my rear lights working thanks to your other post. Did you come across any fixes for the rear hatch aside from reprogramming your a4 bcm? About to go for my first test drive and it would be cool if it was closed.

For shits I decided to look at the bcm. I doubt this is at all helpful but it is additional info. Dont mistake this for helpful info just more in general informational.

Bcm2 held togeather by pressure clips.

Back side is visable pcb. Can see traces all throughout board. Can see where the pinned plugs are on the board. Can also see where they are missing from the plug that has no pins.

The PCB is held in place by grey plastic prongs that extend through the board. You might be able to break them off but it seems like there is more on the other side holding the pcb in place.

Tldr the board appears modular if you can solder and looks like you could add the missing pins if you had a doner board and stole the missing chip. I think that would be ridiculous and no idea if it would have component protection issues, but it does appear possible.

Interesting. I'm going to have to talk to Jack to use the a4 module I guess. Work in electronics manufacturing and have resources at work to do that, but at the risk of ruining my working module probably not worth it.

Just took my car out for its first test drive. Coilovers are bottoming out in the rear but everything was pretty decent!

Have you tried the q5 clockspring yet? My s4 unit is broken and wouldn't communicate so I'm using the a4 one for now. Sports diff won't work but abs is happy now. My wipers are not working too. The sprayers do but no movement front or rear.

Yeah I'd talk to jack. Very reasonable rate for his work today. It's his buisness so I dont want to quote numbers but I wish I had tried him before going to audi for both cost and his experience.

Q5 clockspring didnt work. I could retry it as maybe it would have worked if I had the a4 bcm in, but the sports diff didnt like that clock spring at all so it's not a solution.

My front wipers always have worked so interesting yours dont. If I'm understanding you're using a4 stalk and a4 clockspring? Probably a connector issue as the s4 setup is quite different then the a4 and a4 definitly wont work with s4 sport diff.

My mind is currently blown. Was told that the s4 by the guy in poland, and audi, that even with a reprogrammed bcm2 the s4 key wouldnt work with my a4 for keyless entry. I'd have to get another key specially coded. Ok fine.

KEYLESS TOTALLY WORKS!

Out of sheer habit I walked up to my car today and grabbed the door. It unlocked. Totally flabbergasted I stood there like an idiot for a few seconds processing it. So I locked it walked away and did it again. Totally works. So... keyless entry and push to start are functional.

All I'm left with is the rear wiper to figure out.

Im beginning to think no one actually knows how Audis work. It's all unicorn magic apperently.

My swap has drive select and non-working rear wiper so I’m interested in finding a solution too. I can try to post vag com scan when I get a chance if you need more than one. Mine is 09 body with 2012 engine if that makes a difference.

I just started getting a stability control fault when I turn the wheel all the way to the right or left so I suspect my clock spring has an issue.

Please scan yours if you can. Please note if you have the sports diff or not (or if the s4 doner had the sports diff if you know).

I confirmed with a Byront8, who has a factory S4 avant, that he has the same clockspring (8K0 953 568 G) as me and also has the sport diff.

Hatch is fully functional. BCM2 just needed to be reprogrammed. DO NOT GO TO AUDI. Jack Kirry in Poland 10/10. Google his name and you'll find his skype number. Dont be an idiot like me and read Poland as Portland and call him at 1:30am his time... whoopsie. I don't want to set prices for him but Audi was 171/hr and Jack did everything for what I'd say is a considerable value, and knew exactly what to do, so really best to just contact him first.

So the key is funny; both Jack and Audi said that the s4 had a non-advanced key, which is required for the push-to-start and keyless to function so it wouldn't work. Turns out the s4 must have had a advanced key though so through pure luck once the BCM2 was reprogrammed it could detect the s4 key. Not sure why Audi matched a advanced key to a car that didn't need it, but Im not complaining.

Good luck on your swap. Why do you need to use s4 harness? Difference is huge, you're going to have to strip entire interior and run wiring for the rear hatch area(electrical and CAN bus). MUCH harder process.

Thanks man!! Being that my car is an 09, it's an early B8. Apparently it uses kind of a slower can bus system and architecturally is much closer to an older C6 A6. Wish I had known that when I bought it, lol. The auto-scan has a ton more modules than the 2010-2012 B8s. I figured I'd just be easier to tear down the entire thing (something I'm not opposed to) and swapping the entire harness and then just stripping the rear hatch stuff from the avant harness and putting it into the S4 harness.

Also the 09 has the 2G MMI rather than 3G. Which would require an entire re-wire in itself to upgrade to the 3G MMI. In addition to adding the clutch, sport diff and drive select wiring to the avant harness. So I figured it'd just be easier on my end to skip all of that and make it work with the S4 harness.

Or I just sell my avant an buy a newer one. But being that mine is a prestige already and has full s-line exterior and interior I would like to try and avoid that, lmao. In theory it should work.

So on the stalk...

I texted with 300zx some more trying to determine what my issue is, and though he did order a stalk from Germany it turns out it didn't actually operate his rear wiper. I don't know if any swap to date has had a functional rear wiper.
I have the correct stalk (per the s4 Avant part 300zx ordered through Germany)
I have the correct clockspring per a VCDS log from Byron8t a few posts up who has a factory B8 s4 Avant.
I have spent a good bit of time on this and I don't have an answer, but I do have a plan. Best case I keep looking for a solution. Worst case it doesn't work and I'm pretty sure it wont without some crazy steps that I'm not willing to discover/take as its above my paygrade.

So... The rear wiper has dc 12v for power. The power is just there for the motor to operate it does not work in an on/off configuration.
The signal to "operate" is sent through the CAN bus and is data only. Im not sure how to test for data continuity at the wiper.
When you trigger the rear wiper, the signal is sent and received, with both ends understanding what the data means.
My car is a US spec s4, which has no provision for a rear wiper, or anything similar to a rear wiper. (the s4 doesn't have rear hatch, but it does have a trunk so it operates essentially the same)

I think its very possible that there are a few potential scenarios happening here. Maybe there are others so if you have a different view please chime in. I see 3

1. Since no rear wiper option exists on the S4 the stalk is sending a "operate" signal but that signal is ignored at the destination as it is not understood, or possibly never gets there as as some step along the chain doesn't forward a seemingly gibberish command.
2. The stalk on Non-US cars is somehow different, and the difference allows a seemingly identical part (with matching part numbers) to work for non-US cars but not on ours (I find this highly unlikely and it didn't work for 300zx so pretty unlikely imo).
3. There is a wiring difference in the stalk of b8 Avants. The stalk from the q5 doesn't match and the signal doesn't reach its destination.
4. Are 2 and 3 the same issue just worded differently? My brain says yes but Im wrong a lot so...

Here is what I'm going to do. I'm going to put the A4 stalk and clockspring (Valeo units) back in. This will cause the sport diff to stop functioning (requires Kostal), but will recreate (as much as is possible) my cars original path from stalk to rear wiper. My car has zero errors so its as good as its going to get variable wise. I have no idea what modules, if any grab the data along the path so its possible that a s4 module I had to swap in gets the data and doesn't send it down the line. If it fails it fails though. I believe this a4 stalk/clockspring setup is what zgastin is currently running as he said his s4 clockspring is damaged (not confirmed, will reach out to him, confirm if a4 is Kostal or Valeo units) which he said does not operate the front or rear wipers. He could have other issues, or a BCM2 missing plugs like my s4 unit so just because his doesn't work doesn't mean mine won't. Really all that matters is does it work or fail? The specifics on why matter much less (if I can even tell).

Second, I'm going to try to swap in the correct Kostal a4 stalk and clocksping that b8 avants received when they were optioned with the drive select bits. If there is a signal/wiring difference in b8 Avants this will match the the correct US stalk, to a Kostal clockspring (stalks and clocksprings have to be from the same manufacturer Valeo with Valeo and Kostal with Kostal. Part numbers are different for the different manufactures to make sure they match). I can test the A4 original stalk with both its original Kostal clockspring, and the G revision my car currently has. If either work, and the sport diff functions, that will be the golden ticket. Not everyone will swap in the sports diff so this may fail for me, but be a usable option for swaps without the sports diff.

If either works we will have the right combination, or at least know its possible and requires some more digging.
If both fail, then we know that for some reason, either hardware, software, or both the data is being lost or not understood. I'll probably do a wiper delete and rub her down with rain-x and call it a day if this is the outcome.

Please share any thoughts you have as maybe you see something I don't.

I was in that thread and told the guy to call his insurance to figure out if the financials made sense if his only reason for not was he didn't feel like it. Yes, that is me lol. I appreciate all of you ganging up on him, lmao! He tried but eventually gave up Monday morning and just let insurance pick it up :( Super bummed about it because that would have been the perfect car and his buyback cost would have been dirt cheap. At this point I'm kind of hoping someone will take out my S4 and then I'd just use that as the donor car since it has everything I want and I know the car and it's already dual pulley

Module 16 steering wheel controls the rear wiper. Already coded it. I've been through the long coding of every module, it's not difficult to do and no change. Through coding I've told the car it's an Avant and I've told it it has a rear wiper but it still does not function.


There could possibly be something in the adaptations but good luck there that might as well be in chinese.

Byront8 provided a full vcds scan already that I've been through.

OK, my long coding for Module 16 is 000037 with rear wiper checked (yours should be the same, but photo shows 000036 with bit 0 unchecked).

Have you checked the Group 2 Measuring Blocks in Module 16 while cycling the wiper stalk to see if the car "sees" it requesting rear wiper activation (possibly rule out any wiring issue)?

Good idea on block measuring. I can verify data sent there but do you know if there is a way to verify received? It shows activated for rear wiper when I turn it on, but there is no action. I don’t know how to evaluate what happens to the signal after the measuring block. Perhaps the Ross Tech forum could shed some light on that? Upside, you know the stalk is sending the signal.

I haven't read all your trials up above, but that is the next logical place to check. You are getting the signal sent because there's a physical flow of data/current from the stalk, but it seems the CAN does not process it further (i.e. does not know what to do with those bytes) and activate the appropriate circuit to move the rear wiper and/or the washer motor.

I will see if i can run this tonight for you all, the one i need is to find out how to get my homelink to sync with my remote - it was retrofitted and i followed the instructions form kufatec, but seeing the adaptions for guys that have one it would be useful.

I actually had no idea this was a thing. This is awesome. Gonna do this on the donor s4 (I ended up buying the suspension damaged one) and my wagon. Thanks for the tip!
