Hey thanks man. It has been great and I've really enjoyed/appreciated people following along and getting excited for more of these swaps.

Electrical was my biggest fear and its mostly been pretty ok; change the modules and mostly they have responded well. I have a few lingering that I cant fix, or cant figure out so I have an appointment at Audi on Tuesday. I was super worried when calling as you never know who your going to get, and if they're going to understand what we did and what needs to be done. I got to talk with a service manager who was also a tech and the first thing he said was something along the lines of 'That's Awesome, its the wagon Audi wouldn't build'. At 171 an hour Im going to be willing to live with some error codes if Audi can't get it sorted pretty quick, but regardless its been worth it.

As a side not my display on my cluster keeps going black. Found a thread where others have had the same issue in cold weather and they needed to dissemble the speedometer and swap screens. I can take pics and write out the steps if anyone wants to see it to; but that feels more like a part that broke then it does a step people will have to take when doing this swap.

Got the last and dreaded passenger side nut finished to solve my exhaust leak.

Magoamado pulled the stud out (could also grind it off and drill out) and we replaced it with a 35mm m8 bolt and nylon lock nut.

Nut for that is now on the bottom of the flange and is way easier to tighten.

For anyone doing this swap we spent more than a few hours on this and it is definitly one of the biggest issues we had to figure out as lame as it sounds.

Quite honestly since all the downpipe studs put the nuts on the top of the flange, if I were doing this again I might seriously consider drilling them all out and switching to bolts.20191223_153926.jpeg

Everything is angry and all the issues tie back to component protection.

Funny thing though, module 5 is start authority and is the biggest issue with swaps as the immobilizer will keep car from running if all components dont agree that the key and systems match. It has a cp error. But the car starts and runs, albeit in safe mode. Weird.

On the bright side though the liftgate still doesent work, the guy did set it so that when it closes it is fully closed.

It was water tight even partially closed, but the door and license plate rattled like crazy. Now that I have no stereo I have a lot of time to listen to the exhaust and with test pipes it sounds pretty good. Real throaty.

Got to be frustrating at this point to say the least. Especially when you take it to the dealer and they can't figure it out.

Yeah, at this point I cant say I'm too happy that the electrical stuff is holding me up. At the same time though, I know it will get sorted eventually so I take it all with a grain of salt.

    1. Steering stalk shows up tomorrow - did a lot of research on what clockspring and stalk will work in harmony to keep my sport diff happy while giving me back the use of my rear wiper (the s4 stalk doesn't have a rear wiper function and the a4's was incompatible).
    2. Rear 356mm rotors showed up yesterday - Gonna put on my rear BBK; 4 pot Brembos with Tesla model s electronic ebrake color matched to my front Alcon kit. Should look pretty amazing.
    3. Cable to do cp removal shows up Saturday so I might get the component protection sorted this weekend.

The end is in sight. Probably. Maybe.

Keep pushing man! The end is in sight. Thanks again for sharing this info, those stalks are crucial for rear features and I had no idea about the clocksprings. Those Voshmod brakes are gonna look amazing.

Did you get a quote from a shop to do the swap first or just decide to do it yourself from the beginning? I want to get into a car with this engine and am looking at the Q's but really don't want to leave my avant behind.

I talked to a few shops and a few local guys but didnt get anything close to a quote. Mostly people say it cant be done. Even talking with techs I find I usually research enough to be more knowledgable about what's possible then they know. Shops will be conservative and ballpark high so I'd expect any shop to say somewhere between 8-10k labor and maybe much more.

Having done it I can pretty honestly say if someone brought a avant, a rear ended s4, and 6k to the table me and Magoamado could do this again in 5-7 days. It's a lot of work, but the frames are essentially the same where it counts so it really is doable.

And I diy almost everything I reasonably can as well so I never really considered paying someone to do it all.

Car is currently being looked at by guy in poland via internet. Technology right now is both a huge pain in my ass (audi cp) and a unbelievable blessing.

Went to a local indy enthusiast shop this morning and they couldnt help as they dont have odis. Ok, was worth a shot. Cool people though.

They recommended me to wilsonville audi (the other audi dealer near portland) and said they had some coding done there (they swapped a transmission that wasent offered by audi in that vehicle) and it went well with the off the grid type work required to code it.

So I called wilsonville audi and explained my situation and... 0 intrest flat out said wont look at it or remove cp.

In the win column, I havent been driving it much because hvac is in cp and not functional. Has been cold and rainy and it gets foggy on my commute so it's not a fun drive with the windows down.

The HVAC power switch does nothing and like many other systems appears dead. Pushed the defrost and rear defrost and that kicked on the hvac. Cant adjust temp but assuming it's running at my last selected temp which is comfortably warm and ac kicks on to defrost so car is very driveable now.

IN YOUR FU#$ING FACE AUDI! One should celebrate the little victories.

Sorry to hear Audi Wilsonville didn't want to play ball. I've had good luck in the past there (they did my requested firmware update after I installed the newer 3G modem hardware into my MMI and it wouldn't work). PM sent.

I’ve been meaning to post - great work, man! I debated doing this swap a year ago when my 2.0 was burning a quart every gas station fill-up, but wasn’t confident enough in everything that needed to be done. I see more of these swaps being done in the future.

Good luck with the electronics. With all the modules swapped it has to be something with VCDS I would think.

    Thanks man.

So the hatch is definitely related to the a4 vs s4 BCM2. If I put the a4 BCM back in the car the tailgate works but the car wont start.

Made a post in the s4 main model line (lots of foot traffic) seeking info on Audi component protection. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ent-protection
We're gonna get this figured out. My replacement 5054a shows up tomorrow (unless weather delays it) so still gonna try to get this sorted through the guy in Poland.

No. Only the one shop I know of who has done this (I'm sure there are more) but everyone has swapped modules to avoid component protection issues so not sure how much help they will be since this was caused by odis/audi programming issues. The car was 99% functional a week ago so just need to sort this very specific issue.

GMG did the first one I know of in 2010: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...32-B8-S4-Avant!!

Pacific German did a very recent conversion on @DG7's A4 Avant: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post13835526

So I want my rear wiper back.
S4 sports diff requires a kostal clockspring
8k0 953 568 g (what mine has with working sports diff).

A4 had a valeo coilspring which doesent work with sport diff. The a4 stalk physically does not work with the kostal coilspring. The s4 stalk obviously works with the kostal, but physically lacks the rear wiper function

I reached out to 300zx and he said he ordered one from Germany and gave me part number 4G8953502AD4PK. Searching that lead me to a euro s4 avant at a dismantler selling a stalk with part number 8k0 953 502 bk.

A quick google search shows it's the same part as a q5 stalk from 2009 on. The Q5 also comes with a kostal coilspring, though it has part number 8k0 953 568 f.

The kostal coilsprings have different pin outs. looking online some had pins like this

    2010 s4 (ebay)
    XXX _ XXX
    XXXX
    Clockspring 8k0 953 568 g
    Stalk 8k0 953 502 bd

    2010 s4 (ebay)
    XXX_ _ XX
    XXXX
    Clockspring 8k0 953 568 f
    Stalk 8k0 953 502 bd

    2011 q5 (ebay)
    Pins are like first s4
    XXX _ _ XX
    XXXX
    Clockspring 8k0 953 568 f
    Stalk 8k0 953 502 bk (same as s4 avant)

    What I ordered
    Q5 not sure year (ebay)
    XXX _ _ XX
    XXXX
    Clockspring 8k0 953 568 f
    Stalk 8k0 953 502 bk

What was on my car from the s4
    2011 s4
    XXX _ XXX
    XXXX
    Clockspring 8k0 953 568 g
    Stalk 8k0 953 502 bd

I did this as it gave me a few options
    My s4 clockspring is 8k0 953 568 g
Q5 has clockspring 8k0 953 568 f and has stalk that is same part as euro s4 avant
Can try both clocksprings to see what works.

So I got the clockspring and stalk. First I tried the q5 combo I ordered
    Q5 clockspring (f)
    Q5 stalk
Vcds scan verified awd error wrong part installed
    No wiper function

Time to try my clockspring with q5 stalk. To take the clockspring off you need a t8 torx fyi.

    Tried s4 clockspring (g)
    Q5 stalk
Vcds scan verified no awd error (yay)
    No wiper function (fuk)

So... I read somewhere that the q5 did not get the sport diff. If that's correct from my sample it looks like vehicles without the sports diff got clockspring f and are missing a pin in the connector. This might be the right combination if someone doing a future 3.0 swap does not have a sports diff.

Vehicles with the sports diff got clockspring g and have the additional pin.

I looked at the white harnesses on the stalks and they are pinned the same. Wires 9 and 10 run inside the body and I'm not curious enough to pry it apart to see where they go.

So... why does the wiper not work? Honestly I think it will once I get the bcm2 sorted as the car currently has the s4 bcm and the rear hatch's close button is also not functional. I think the bcm is just ignoring all rear hatch functions.

Or not and all this is wrong. I tried. It's a rear wiper and if the bcm doesent fix it I might just call it a day.

At least my stalk now looks like it should work.Screenshot_20200106-132720_eBay.jpegScreenshot_20200106-133535_eBay.jpegScreenshot_20200106-165843_eBay.jpegScreenshot_20200106-165936_eBay.jpeg20200114_195435.jpeg20200114_195800.jpeg20200114_200614.jpeg20200114_204342.jpeg

I'm in the same boat as you & do not have a functional rear wiper. I'm not sure if this helps you any, but my next step to get this working is to order a B8.5 allroad stalk. That's what Pacific german recommended, & it's also not on the list of the stalks that you listed two posts above. Maybe give that a try & see if it works.

    Were boat buddies!

I think it helps. I got my replacement 5054a so I should maybe/hopefully get my component protection stuff sorted and the guy thought he could get my old bcm working. That one even now can control my liftgate though the car wont start.

If your not in a hurry give me a few days as q5 stalks are cheap. I havent looked up allroads but I'm assuming since they are fairly rare they may cost more.

So today went much better. Jack from Poland was able to remove cp from all of the modules. Nice to have guages heat stereo etc. back. He needed a VAS 5054a cable with a usb connection fyi if anyone needs his service in the future. Ebay clones are fine.

Jack was also able to reprogram the bcm2 from the a4 so I can use it on the s4. As mentioned before the s4 bcm was missing a set of pins for one of the plugs so it wasent a good replacement. One of the items on that plug is the rear hatch which I'm happy to say is working great now.

The s4 did not have keyless entry so it does not work yet. The key is physically missing some internal bits. VERY interesting was that push to start now works (s4 key and reprogrammed a4 bcm2) and it works with key in pocket. So I have fully functioning start button. Did not expect that at all.

Scanned car with vcds and went from lots of errors to none. Brake light on dash as I have a front bbk and havent put on plugs to cancel error (I have them) and I get a cel for emissions (I have test pipes). Otherwise no error codes or dash lights. As mentioned sports diff in and works great.

Other then getting a key compatible with keyless the only issue is the rear wiper. The q5 didnt work. Not sure why. Other options are possibly sourcing a avants that had dynamic suspension (it would have the kostal coil spring) or look into allroads. Think I'm gonna delay as I'm kinda burnt out at this point. Exhaust is too loud so gonna work on quieting that down then I'm done for a bit.20200107_175050.jpeg20200127_091109.jpeg20200127_110215.jpeg20200127_111054.jpeg20200127_111030.jpeg

    Thanks y'all. Fells so good.

Also I Forgot. I put a chipwerke pro on as well because fast. Coming from an a4 the s4 is so much faster I'd be lying to say it's obviously faster, but it does seem to have a little extra in the mid range.

I'm gonna dyno the s4 for a base before I go dp likely next black friday so I'll do 2 runs stock and 2 with the chipwerke.IMG_20200125_150611_01.jpeg

Hey, just got my rear lights working thanks to your other post. Did you come across any fixes for the rear hatch aside from reprogramming your a4 bcm? About to go for my first test drive and it would be cool if it was closed.

glad my tailight thread helped. Hope it comes in handy for others down the line as well. Thread for reference https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...-coding-needed

If your s4 bcm2 is missing the 7pm pins (by my thumb) then it wont work to the best of my knowledge. I went through vcds and changed all the sedan to avant coding and went through the long coding of all the modules to see if I could find a way but unfortunitly no.20200127_190051.jpeg
