OIL LEAKING FROM BOV AND TURBO MUFFLER

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an 09 audi a4 2.0t and I'm having issues with oil leaking past the diverter valve and the turbo muffler. I have a spacer at the valve and a delete where the muffler was. I also have an APR stage 1 tune. Right after the tune I would get between 26 and 28 psi boost, now(about 6 weeks later) I'm seeing about 22psi. Could either of these oil leaks cause a reduction in boost or be caused by higher boost pressure and what's the best way to address them? Note: I did notice and address these leaks about 2 weeks ago when I did an oil change but they are back.

Sounds to me like your rear pcv valve is going bad, letting extra oil pass and loosing boost as well. Just my thoughts.

excuse my ignorance, but where is the 'rear' pcv valve?
i have changed the one on top of the motor.

It should lead right to your turbo from the valve cover. It has a check valve that goes bad with additional boost. I deleted mine...bad idea. Run stock and get a spare. I have an 06 2.0t so check the location of your rear breather. Maybe slightly different.

Here's what I've got. Not sure if the link will work but you can check my pictures at @DRMotorsports2019 on Facebook. The only Audi pictured is mine.

My stage 2 unitronic does 20 psi. Your levels seem high. Correct me if I'm wrong

The PSI does seem high for a stage 1.
Snap a pic of your turbo area and post that.

That arrow is pointing to the rear bresther on my 06. I'd imagine its similar in your 09. At the top of that tube is the check valve. That's what can wear out and let additional oil pass and you could lose some boost that way as well. 20191026_133026.jpeg

He has an 09 and you have an 06. They’re completely different motors.

OP, if your turbo muffler delete pipe is leaking oil out of it, it’s also leaking boost. Get a boost leak test done and go from there. Maybe a little loctite is needed on the turbo muffler delete or maybe it’s something else.

Get a boost leak test because we won’t know where the loss is coming from.

And try getting rid of that catch can and use the stock PCV system. Catch cans can cause more harm than good if the design sucks.

Hurts to think about dropping the catch can. I really like the look and it wasn't cheap. What kind of problems can they cause?

Who cares how it looks? Unless it’s a show car how much time are people looking at your engine bay?

The biggest issue is that you’re taking them at their word that it’s designed properly and will work with your car. A catch can that isn’t big enough or doesn’t have good enough baffles or filtering can cause more issues than the stock system it’s suppose to replace.

Then there’s the issue of the moisture in the oil vapor in the can or hoses freezing. That won’t be a big issue for you being in Florida but it’s a problem for people who have decent winters.

Then there’s issues when people don’t hook the plumbing up correctly or just plain cheap quality parts and fittings.

Put the car back to stock with the OEM PCV and figure out your issue. It will be much easier to diagnose an issue with stock parts than it will be with the can.

If your can is causing the crankcase to have overpressure, it’s going to try to push oil out wherever it can.
