Backing up on a hill sometimes rough?!

I notice when I back into my garage uphill, the transmission seems a little jerky or it seems like it slips at times. Is that the sport diff being temperamental?? I haven't noticed this when the car is cold, only at full operating temp.

No issues shifting into reverse and the transmission is otherwise buttery smooth. 13 B8.5 S4 btw.

Wondering if that goes into the "they all do that" category or early signs of a bigger problem?

My 2013 acts like that when backing up a steep incline. I think it’s a DSG thing.

+1 on the DSG thing. My 2014 does sort of the same thing when slowly backing up my driveway, which is on an incline. More slippage though than jerkiness. Early on, I thought that this could've been a problem, but 5 1/2 years later, it still behaves the same. I think it's just an inherent design characteristic of the DSG transmission.

This is the worst situation for dsg. Backing up on inclines supposedly causes alot of wear. If you can avoid it particularly in a daily basis its probably best

It has absolutely nothing to do with the differential.
It's a Dual Clutch thing. If you have experience driving a manual you will understand that the car is slipping the clutch to avoid stalling...

Well, glad to hear it may be normal :). Thankfully I don't have to do it every day. I was just surprised since normal driving is very smooth; almost like a conventional auto.
