What's your view on RS7 parts on a non RS?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Since my accident (not my fault, still pissed) I've been going back and forth on what to do or not do to this car. I love the RS7 look, but the car isn't an RS7. Today besides lowered and wheels, my car is stock. No upgraded grille (one sitting in the garage), no spoilers, nada.

On the one hand, I like having the S7 stock at Stage 3 so it's much more of a sleeper. On the other hand, an Estoril Blue RS7 is badass. It's really not worth the money to do it, and after discussing the aftermarket parts with people like bhamcarnut, the quality is disappointing. About all I would get insurance to pay for is the front bumper cover and one side skirt. The grilles and supporting parts would be on me.

    Thoughts?
    Scott

To each their own but I’ve installed the RS7 honeycomb grill in my A7 and love it. I also couldn’t stand the blocky stock shifter so I changed that to a RS7 shifter. If i had the money for it, I’d love to change the steering wheel to the S series flat bottom style and even the RS7 quilted seats. To me, it’s all about making my car own, tastefully. I won’t rip off the A7 emblem and try sticking on a S7 or RS7 badge or tell people its anything but an A7 but I don’t oppose making it my own.

VAG is all about the OEM+, so yes, definitely upgrade using higher trim/model parts.

IMO minimal updates are fine, but when all the model differences are applied to the lesser car, it can get tacky. The person should have just bought the higher-end model. However, I also feel our cars make very subtle changes between models, so interchanging parts is more accepted in my eyes.

Putting RS parts on a S car is fine and acceptable in my eyes. When people start putting RS parts on A models that’s when it just gets annoying for me.

So long as your badges clearly advertise the actual vehicle behind the looks I don't see any issues having RS stuff on a S or even A model. Or you could fool everyone and leave the badges off lol.

I have the RS7 style grill on my S6. It's my car and my money. Some people hate the quattro emblem at the bottom of the grill others think it is silly to leave it off. You will never please everyone so please yourself.

That was my thought originally, but the OEM parts are 10k, so I'm wavering pretty good on that decision lol.

I have OEM rs7 front bumper and grill on my car. I didn't get OEM rear. I had the diffuser painted carbon fiber. It looks awesome (and insurance paid for it). Car will be stage 3 soon so it's almost an rs7 :)

And no, there won't be an rs7 emblem haha

As long as you are not up badged or telling people you're an RS car I think the RS parts are a very tasteful oem+ way to customize.

If you do it for your own liking (such as the examples you stated), then I don’t see a problem with it. But if you’re replacing parts with RS parts to deliberately try to trick people into thinking you have an RS car, then that’s kinda dumb in my opinion.

agreed that you should keep it model correct. all is is a matter of taste, and the grille looks great to me.

Yep yours looks great. Of course, never one not to overkill, I'd want the rear and sides too... which then means exhaust, etc etc etc.

A lot of my car has been upgrade to RS parts. Outside: Front bumper, grille, side skirts, and mirrors. Inside: steering wheel, shifter, dash cluster.

Like most people in the forum, I hate when people try to make their cars pass as something they’re not with badges and such. With that being said, when I upgraded my cluster, it showed RS7 on it. Bothered me so much I ended up combining my old S7 cluster and the RS cluster. I surgically (hahahahaha) took the S7 badge and put it on the RS cluster. Now I have an S7 speedo with 200mph! The new R8 steering wheel I’m building says RS like my shifter but hey. I have RS turbos so I think it’s fine. Lol.

I agree that as long as you don't up badge it, then it's your car and do what you want! However, at what point do people stop and realize that for all the money they're spending on upgrades and RS parts, they could just buy a (used) RS model? Lol. It's a little different in your situation with insurance paying for it, so definitely go for it, but I gotta wonder for the rest.

I have a B8 S4 and put an RS style front grill on. Looks Sooo much better. I have an RS7 and also wouldn’t care if people add RS7 components to their S7 or A7. Hell, you’re applauded if you upgrade S7 turbos to RS turbos right?? If you do it yourself even better.

    Badges = unicorn

RS7’s don’t have a 3.0T! I just came across eBay badges for an RSQ5 and other crap. Seriously though, why wouldn’t you upgrade to parts that make it look better!

My A7 bumper had to be replaced due to damage, (with insurance paying) so I decided to go with a RS7 bumper cover. I had already replaced the damaged grille with a honeycomb. Love the way it looks. I had debadged the rear long ago, but left my 'supercharged' badges on the sides. Anyone that knows better knows it's a A7, although it doesn't act quite like a A7...

we should be estoril fake rs7 twins! i cant wait to toss on an rs7 bumper when money allows. it just looks soooo much better IMO

theres nothing wrong with using higher trim body parts on a lesser car. i mean, the A car has s-line parts to make it look like an s, right? so why cant the S look like an RS? and even some of the A s-competition packages mimics the RS look. no issues in wanting to look good, no matter what the engine is. just no badges

Makes me wonder why they don’t have an RS-line. I bet that’d sell nicely. The 3.0T is a fantastic motor with huge potential. If I ever bought a new or CPO that’s probably what I’d opt for due to my cheapness.

Like most others, as long as you don't badge it as something it's not, I'm all for upgrading appearance and performance parts from the higher end models. I think that's one of the best parts of true car guys/ gals. You take pride in your car and mix and match parts to make it look and behave more like you want it to (personalize it) & separate it from every other one that rolled off the factory floor.

The best part is you can identify others like you as they will be the ones to notice the differences.
