    Sport diff pressure sensor

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all.

Looks like I have a sport diff pressure issue.

    Both sensors showing zero pressure.

It’s possible it’s a fault with the wiring or the awd controller by the battery. The mechatronics unit has already been replaced.

Trouble is I can’t find a p/n for the sensors if it is them.

I’ve seen many posts by people saying they’ve replaced the sensors (usually before finding a wiring issue) but assuming I rule that out, can someone point me towards how to replace the sensors alone?

    Thanks in advance.

    Adam

If you have zero pressure (on both sensors), I would first check if the pump works. Check the wiring to the pump motor.
If the pump runs, then check the wiring to each of the 2 clutch solenoid valves. If these are not actuated when the pump runs, then there will be zero hydraulic pressure at the pressure sensor.

Also, if you replaced the Sport Diff controller (box next to battery), there is an adaptation that has to be done to the new controller, to "marry it" to the clutch engagement characteristics of the diff. Did you get a brand-new controller? Or a used one from another car?

I got a used one from another car but have seen the potential adaptation required.

Are you referring to the 2x4 digit hexadecimal values stamped on the diff itself? If so, it looks like that coding is for the mechatronics unit rather than the diff controller itself.

Not sure if I’ll get the pump working as the fault code I’m getting seems to disable everything.

I’ve replaced both sensors and still have the sport diff fault...

You need a special tool to get to one of the sensors I had to buy it off of eBay. Also the sensors are pretty expensive. I think I spent over 300$ for both sensors and still have the same issue.

I would check what S4’ed mentioned. Before you spent the money and time like I did replacing the sensors.

How do you check if pump/solenoid is running?

i had a sport diff malfunction. there are 4 sensors according to my schematic. i ordered this part number 0BF 598 079. Its a kit has 2 sensors and some seals. It fixed my issue but it did need to be coded and i had to refill it with diff oil

After bearing, seals and oil replaced i had same issue. No pressure - new sensor. But in my case, in Audi service, they only push 7 times venting the system. Now is OK. no new sensor needed.

    For completeness,

We tested the pump by running power direct.
At the same time the sensors both recorded pressure.
    Both are already recording temperature.

It would seem that when I replaced the mechatronics unit, the wrong part number according to vcds scan was supplied even though the pn on the physical unit and the invoice was correct. The PN showing in vcds is completely alien - doesn’t seem to be a recognised part in any VW/Audi/Lamborghini. When they tried to code it, it even came us as not being correct for the vehicle. We have overwritten the software and while it works in every other respect, it refuses to send any power to the pump and so cannot control the sport diff.

We’ll be needing to replace the mechatronics again I think, just trying to get the supplier - Audi - to approve. Trouble is, when my car goes on Audi systems, it throws a fit due to all the retrofit modifications and so they are blaming everything except the part they supplied.

I actually ended up solving my issue by replacing the solenoids and not the sensors. I have extra sensors laying around if you wanna test. You’ll need VAGCOM to adapt the new sensors. I’m also in NH. Shoot me a PM if you want the sensors for free. I have no need for them currently.
