Question Leather dye for shift boot??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wondering if anyone here has dye'd their shift boot a different color?? or seats and so on?? To make a long story short i purchased a oem gray leather boot and shiftknob for my daily. However Recently I picked up another avant. with black leather interior. It will be getting a manual swap done over the winter.I was hoping to dye the shift boot black instead of buying another. Wondering if anyone has dye'd anything as far as leather goes on these cars and how did it come out and did it last long term.

Feibings Pro Dye should do the trick. Make sure it's the pro Dye, the regular dyes aren't oil based and don't penetrate as well. Use a deglazer (also Feiblings) to remove the old finish so that it absorbs. Just pour some in a something large enough to submerge the whole thing. Polish/finish with Feibings Resolene to seal it so dye doesn't come off and buff to a shine.

If you don't get the results you want, another option is do disassemble the pieces and use them as templates to cut new pieces of leather than you can buy cheap from Tandy or Weaver leather. Then just get someone to sew them up.

I used the Feibings on my shift knobs with good success. Didnt know there was a pro version, but its been holding up well so far, 20,000km on one and just about 1000 on another. The knob kind of polished its self after a bit of use.

I didnt use this boot, but I've done a boot as well with before.
