What RPMs do you shift at?

Wondering what RPMs you guys shift at? Never really used paddle shifters before but want to start with my 2018 S3 with APR tune.

I usually shift around 4.5-5k rpm but have no idea if thats a good range.

What do you downshift at as well? When i'm in Dynamic and I downshift from 2 to 1 at around 2.5k RPMs, my engine goes up to 5k RPM in the first gear which is pretty damn jerky and aggressive. Is that normal?

    APR tune...stage 1?

    No DSG tune?

I let the DSG shift automatically. As its shifts better on the factory settings. Removes all guess-work.

Especially in the Dynamic verses Comfort modes....

You'll never beat the Auto, but if you want to, there's a whole science to it and you need to dyno whatever state your car is, plot the power delivery by RPM against the gear ratios and tire diameters and calculate the optimal shift point for every gear - potentially every gear will have a different shift point... Nevermind, just leave it in sport lol.

I paddle; drive in manual mode, with the engine and tranny set to dynamic mode.
I like putting it in the gear I want, when I want.
Once the engine oil is warmed up, I vary what RPM I upshift at, depending on traffic and hill conditions.
For downshifts, it depends again on conditions; though I would not normally want to downshift into 1st until at a lower RPM in 2nd, say at 1.5k RPMs.

Though the paddles are not as totally engaging as a 3-pedal MT, I still prefer manual mode even with an automated manual tranny.
It also seems to me that a paddle initiated upshift at 6k RPM results in a quicker shift than letting it upshift automatically at red line.

Unless you're asking about WOT there isn't one set answer. Sometimes at 1900rpm, sometimes at 6800 rpm, sometimes somewhere in-between.

Really depends on the driving style, if I’m at the drag strip trying to get a good 1/4mi time I’ll shift just after 6k but normal driving I’ll shift around 3.5k spirited driving will range between 5-6.5k

Ehh. 2.5-3k if in M mode. Normally I’ll leave it in S in town, and D on highways. Idk, I’ve had the same tank of E for over 2 months. Ha

I’m in agreement with others here however what I can’t do is drive in Dynamic auto vs manual. I don’t like how the car hangs onto any given gear. A TCU tune would fix it but I’m content for what it is, lol.
