From my understanding you can easily install the covered one.

Look up @partsbytopher on IG, I almost guarantee that he can get it for you.

I'm confused by this comment - have you seen pics of a US model that doesn't have the cup holders covered? Why would they remove that cover?

I assume it’s because the A6s appear to not have the cup holders covered. I skimmed through ads in Canada and they all have exposed cups.

If this is indeed the case, lip will be integrated.

Got it. I've only been tracking the rs6 pics. Thanks for this. Definitely hoping for an integrated closure.

Yah IDK. Not sure if it’s an option here or really the reasoning why N/A cars wouldn’t. Based on how flush the holders are, not sure how easy it is to retrofit. I’ve sent an email to enquire.

I was referring to the A6/7 which over here have exposed cup holders. Not sure why that’s the case when the euro counterpart has a cover. I’m assuming it will be the same for the Audi Sport versions but I hope I’m wrong.

I've been on the list at my dealer for a while now. I know I'm either one or two (and the other guy is a friend, we're not sure which one of us got on first). I e-mailed them today and asked if they had any more info on the car. They said no, but followed that up by asking for a $5000 deposit to hold my place in line and telling me that I would be paying 10k over list for the car based on its exclusivity... It seems mad to pay over MSRP, particularly when Audi is on record for saying this is not a limited car, that there are no limitations on orders and dealer allocations, and that all orders will be filled.

What do you guys think? Are you expecting to put down sizable deposits and to pay over list? Should I tell them to p*ss off?

Below is the quote and reference for production. I sent this to my dealer in the same e-mail where I said I'd not pay over MSRP and that $2500 sounds like a much better deposit amount.

"Audi North America Director for Product, Technology, and Motorsports Mark Dahncke explained to us at Frankfurt that the RS6 Avant "is those demanding customers' last chance to get a performance wagon in America if they don't buy this one."

While he couldn't provide projected sales figures, it was made clear that anyone who wants an RS6 Avant can get one. Production will not be limited. Nor will dealership allocation. Assuming you have another dealer close, I would talk to them... If you have been a good customer of theirs and they are doing that, its time to find a better store. I wouldnt pay over list, the 5k deposit is workable, especially if you are not building something that is crazy and not sellable (read: crazy color, really expensive, or really base)

At least at my store, if you are ordering a black on black with normal packages, I will sell that car in a heartbeat, so you are welcome to back out...

My dealer is not asking a single buck for deposit on RS7 and I'm able to negotiate the price a little bit. Go to another dealership

The amount of people willing to plop down 150k for a wagon is miniscule. Wait them out or look somewhere else. Don't be a sucker.

My dealer initially didn't ask for a deposit back on announcement day. Last week they called and said they were now doing $2500, completely refundable and goes towards purchase of car (gave that to me in writing) to hold my #1 spot in line (also in writing). If I didn't pay the $2500, they'd give my spot away (claimed there were 8 names on the list) if someone else paid.

I paid the $2500. Not only is that their normal deposit for any car purchase, but I got all the details in writing, so feel comfortable doing it.

All that said, $5k, if refundable and towards car doesn't seem terrible, but I'd expect them to do whatever their "normal" deposit is. Paying $10k over MSRP just seems ludicrous given Audi claims everyone who wants one will get it and there's no clear idea of what demand will ultimately be.

Agree about looking elsewhere if there are options...

Agree on all points --who cares about a deposit that will go towards the purchase of the car you are buying anyway. Paying over MSRP is a slap in the face for a car not in limited production and as a matter of principle-- even if there is not another dealer around-- I would go elsewhere if that is how they value your "business."

Yah, no way am I paying over MSRP.

My dealer initially didn’t want a deposit or sign paperwork in the summer. I didn’t trust that without some paperwork that I’d keep the first spot so we agreed to $500.

Many dealers say they have 5-10 people but I highly doubt that there are that many buyers.

My dealer did not take a deposit and had no problem telling me I had first options on an order as soon as it opened up.

Very excited about this car. I’m giving up my 6MT for it, which I never thought I’d do.

Thanks for the replies guys. If they come back saying they'll do MSRP, but still want the 5k deposit, I'd be fine with that. I don't really want to tie up a full 5k with the dealer, but how much of a return am I really going to miss out on? $1.50?!?!?

The issue of shopping around different dealers is that the one in the town I live in has done enough to me and people I know that I won't give them any of my money and I don't trust them to work on any car I own (long story, and probably not worth diving into). I bought an RS5 earlier this year from the dealership I am on the RS6 list with, and I've referred two others to them. One of those ended in a sale and the other is still deciding between a few options. As was mentioned in one of the comments about, asking for 10k over list on a car that will be fully available to anyone that wants one feels like a smack to the face.

I don't need to belabor the point. I'm just going to hope they come around.

If you get in writing that the $5k is completely refundable, you can always play a game of chicken with them and plan to walk if they truly try to charge you $10k over. They may balk when you threaten to back out if they don't have a true list of others waiting in the wings. Worst case seems to be you may end up waiting a little longer to get one from another dealer.

But yeah, if you have $5k sitting around, tying it up at Audi isn't awesome, but you're really not missing out on much return right now. Think of it as smile ROI instead of $...

Per Massachusetts law the deposit would be refundable until the order for the car is submitted, which is why I'm not too worried about the $5k if they insist on it. I can see the idea of playing chicken about the 10k over list, but that's not my style. I'd rather be 100% transparent with them, and if they want to sell me a car at fair terms, we move forward, if not, I walk away.

Got word from my dealer. Nr 12 on the list. Deposit wont be deducted until they know the allocation and that wont happen until new year.

AFAIK, zero information has been provided to the dealers and no real info on when some would be available. They seem to provide info from the same sources we do, the interweb. Frustrating for us but as well as for the dealers.

Could Audi have handles his better and not released until all markets have a proper release plan? Yes, most definitely.
