How are the RS3's holding up with miles on them?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I am thinking about trading my modded SQ5 in on an RS3 but my pockets aren't deep enough to buy a low mile one so I have been looking at ones with 30-50K miles on them. I realize there is risk in this depending on who owned the car before but I am doing my best to source a well taken care of example. Also if anyone knows of one for sale with some miles shoot me a PM as I am not finding many out there. Thanks for any tips on this.

I would first find out if the car was tuned or not. Then use vcds to scan for codes and also check number of launches under auto-trans.
Check to see if it was serviced and that all oil changes is done. An owner that loves his car would changes oil more often then required.
Check to see if the stock brakes is still on the car and see how much wear it has.
(Look at the tire also but you probably did that already)

Then do all other used car checks.

Well slightly different as mine is a prefl.

But 40k, 4 years later, over 100 motorsport events, 100 drag passes + daily driving duties.

Engine and gearbox are still going strong. No issues. Has been at stage 2+ power on e85 for 20k and 2 years.

I will say I have spent more $$ than normal on preventative maintenance as well as things like new brakes though, 2 oil changes a year, a dsg oil change, plus the log book servicing. It get's well looked after.

I like the suggestion from context.eax. You can look on carmax, car gurus, auto trader, Edmunds, etc and see if you can find one. I also seen a couple for sale on this forum recently, as a matter of fact, someone just traded a RS3 for a BMW 340M like a couple of weeks ago.

I think that most of the RS3 for sale on the streets would be un-tuned but you will find some with very light modifications which it should be a big concern. In general, I think is a solid car if you don't go over the board with modifications. I am on the clock to hit 14000 miles my first year of ownership, half of that on a tune.

not sure your price range and this one is not high mileage but a local has one for sale and the price seemed good to me. basically every option minus the DA package.

Thanks, I saw that one but am really trying to avoid black or red. Would prefer Nardo, or darker grey.

I'm at 60,000km on my 2018. Not tuned or modded. I'm still on OE tires, brake pads and rotors (V1) all doing great. Apart from maintenance, I've had the sunroof issue (fixed under warranty) and my full exhaust replaced (fixed under warranty - squeaky valves).

There's a custom code Iroz hybrid turbo car here in SoCal that has around 50k miles and holding up perfectly as a high mileage commuter.

I'm at 79,000km- dealer serviced, fixed sunroof rattle, have O34 Open intake and Unitronic turbo intake- was about to do the Tune 1 and TCU and the VCDS found two minor faults that I am getting fixed at dealer. The car runs and sounds great with no other problems that I can remember.

What is the fix for the sunroof rattle? I have it but I hesitate to violate the integrity of the chassis.

Not sure. Was fixed under warranty; it came back and they diagnosed that it was a broken seat latch. Got the car back and it was worse but after I opened and closed the roof it seems ok now.

15k miles here and the only wear/tear seems to be my own fault.. lol.

The stock tires don't last or go from OK to HORRIBLE quickly. Mechanically, I haven't had any problems. I had a low oil light before first oil change and did that myself.

I did have a couple rattles in the back that were window sill related but beyond that it's been pretty solid.

I'm near 40k miles with 0 issues that I didnt cause myself. The only non maintenance part I've replaced was the lpfp, which was only $330 brand new. I've been tuned on E85 for 30k of the miles and the car still feels super strong as I daily it.

I'm not high miles yet, but I've put 10k on in the last 8 months of daily driving - mine is almost full bolt on - no downpipe yet - and stage 1 tune. I drive it pretty hard almost daily. No issues at all.

There was a recall like 2-3 months ago about the rear seat latch on a few models. I took mine in.

Whatvwas wrong with the LPFP? Was it clogged? How often do you run 93 octane to keep the fuel pump and injectors clean?

I believe I had a bad pump from day 1. I wasn't running E85 last summer in the hot weather so the extra flow wasn't used last year in the heat. But starting at 80+ degrees F this year, I started having low pressure issues randomly on my Stage 2 E85 when WOT above 5k RPM only in high heat. I had 0 issue all winter on the same setup for nearly 25000 miles.

When I pulled the pump, it looked fine, it just didn't like heat it seemed.

I've run E85 fuel exclusively since I've gotten tuned without a single tank of Gasoline in between fill ups. I just upgraded injectors about 4k miles ago
