UPDATE: Repeated steps 18-21 like 3 times and its now working. Go figure. Thanks for letting me know I was right that car needs to be running.
Took me a few times to get the combo just right trying it a few different ways as you described until it finally worked.

I received my iDatastart/iDatalink components yesterday and plan on installing my remote start system this weekend. Much needed as winter came early in Wisconsin.

    Thanks,

    Ben

Purchased the idatastart from the eBay link, the usb cable, and I bought the drone cell phone thing. Hopefully all this stuff works together with my 2015 RS7, I’ll try to make an Install Post if it’s not to difficult. Wish me lock. I don’t need any extra key fins or anything right, would rather just use my factory remote. This is.

Correct, you use the factory keyfob to start/stop. Default is 3x lock

This is extremely frustrating. I can’t get the final steps to work, the whole start for 15 seconds, then put your foot on the brake.

Also, do I need to start the programming process over from step 1 each time I want to retry? That’s what I have been doing.

I would really appreciate someone being able to walk me through steps 18 through the finish. Anything different with mine being a 2018 S6?

Also, someone else mentioned flashing 3 times during the process. I flashed mine once to start, prior to the programming instructions. Then I continue the flash procedure at step 11. I never hit the module programming button either.

Another question: Do I need to cut the loop that states for ‘automatic transmission’ only? I didn’t see anyone else mention doing this.

    Thanks,

    Ben

I have a 2018 S6 as well. And I had issues with that section of programming as well. I just repeated it a couple of times and it finally took.

Did you have to start the programming over from step 1 and reflash with your repeated attempts?

Did you get through step 16 ok? If you did, then just repeat 18-22.

It drove me nuts. But after doing it a few times it worked. Haven't had any issues since.

I was getting through 16 fine, but for some reason I thought I had to start over so I kept reflashing and starting at 1. Well, I finally got a reflash error and had to call tech support this morning to have them reset my module. Will try again tonight. Hoping for better luck now that I cut the ‘auto trans’ loop.

    Thanks for all the help!

It took me a few times to get that stage of the programming right as well. You do not need to start over from step one each time. TBH I'm having trouble remembering exactly when you're supposed to push the small black button on the module because I remember the directions saying DO NOT push it during a certain step, but then you do have to push it soon after... trail and error and trying different combinations worked but at least you don't have to start the ENTIRE process over each trial.

Wait, so you do need to press the module programming button? I don’t see that anywhere in the install guide? Can anyone confirm when this needs to be done?

I'm not sure if pressing the button is what made it work, but I pressed it, and it ended up working during that attempt.

Do steps 10-16, then plug back into computer, do next step of flash, then plug back into car, press black programming button now, then do steps 17-23.

Very interesting, this would be great during the winter time! Want to look into it but seems like some are having difficulty with the programming.

Somewhat surprised that this feature isn't a factory option at all, as I had it in my 2008 Chevy Tahoe. It makes a huge difference to comfort on entry. The vehicle would be noticeably cool & comfortable in hot weather, even after just a few seconds after remote-starting. Of course, warming the car in cold conditions would take considerably longer.

Audi doesn't offer it because they say it's "not good" for the car. idd exactly what they're referring to when they say that but I think it's transmission related. I call BS, they should include as factory option at a minimum.

Not sure, I never pressed that little button because I never saw anywhere in the instructions to press it. Works great now.

At any rate, you can call their 800# during working hours and they are very helpful and friendly. I bought mine off eBay, so it doesn't matter where you got it. I installed mine initially and I missed the JS connectors. i had 1+2 connected and it needed to be 2+3 connected. Guy asked me like 2 questions and knew right away what I had done wrong.

It's an issue of letting a car run at idle for long periods. I would think for direct injection it adds to more carbon build up. Not totally agreeing as I've added remote starts to my past 3 vehicles.

Ok so I’m going to take the plunge and order the I datalink module, harness and the USB cable. Have any of you used the add on for cellular start? Or is that only from the 12 volt company?

Also what is the automatic gearbox wire that is being cut? I didn’t see that in the video that was in this thread.

Check the install instructions on their site, it's a wire loop you just snip.

In Germany and other European countries it's currently illegal in to start or idle a vehicle with no one in the driver's seat. Thus, no remote starters.
Don't know if that's exactly why most of the Lux cars made in Germany don't have it, but I bets it's one of the driving factors.

You skipped over the 1st sentence. There are city ordinances in some places that don't allow people to idle their cars for extended periods.

So I’m trying steps 18-22 again. I keep getting the hazards to flash 3 times after, followed by a lone flash.

With battery in fob, I am putting my foot on the brake and starting the car. Then I take my foot off the brake and wait 15 seconds. Then I push the brake and hold, then hit Lock on my fob 3 times, then take my foot off the brake. That is followed by 3 flashes of the hazards, a pause, then another single flash.

Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

    Thanks,

    Ben

Dk2392 reported the same problem and repeated the steps 18-22 several times before it took. Maybe leave the car running on step 18 for a little longer before proceeding?

So, it’s working now. Seems that the parking brake was the issue. For some reason I decided to take the parking brake off and try again, and I got the magical 2 flashes at the end! Thanks God!

You do have to remove panels to run wires and connect the T-harness to the BCM. Systems works great and no issues at all. Have been running this for 4 months. I also have cell phone start, so I do not have an additional key fob or a antenna mount to the windshield. I do have the actual remote start unit programmed to start the car using the OEM fob when you press lock 3X's.

    Parts

Idatalink CMVWXA0 - remote start unit

    Idatalink ADS-THR-AU2 - Tharnesss

For cell start you can use any of them out there. Drone, Viper smartstart or whatever else.
Thanks for this. Got mine installed this week.

So I received everything and trying to install, I connected js2-3 (green and red)
Step 4 isn’t working for me I wait for ever the car does not flash the hazard lights and can’t continue. Am I supposed to push the button in the unit, also came with another little box that the “key” cable connects to. Does that need to be connected? The diagram shows now. 🤦🏼*♂️
