Im making this post reaching out for help because i’m not very educated on exhaust systems and the different ways you can modify them.. But when i bought my A4 B6 1.8t it came with stock exhaust system and i never got around to modifying it because i been working on other needed maintenance. But just last week i hit a huge speed bump wrong and bottomed the car and a day later i noticed i snapped the exhaust pipe in half right after where the flex pipe runs into the rest of the exhaust.. Now is the time to repair/modify the exhaust. Now i’m a absolute sucker for a nice crackle and rumble of a engine, I know it’s only a 4 cylinder but i want to try and get the best sound possible along with some crackle.. I don’t know if achieving the crackle sound is possible with only changing up the exhaust or not.. Or if i have to get a different tune. (I don’t want to be that guy with a loud shit sounding car though)

Anyway what i’m asking is if i’m able to achieve what i want with only changing exhaust or not. And if not what should i do to at least get a better sounding 1.8t while at the same time fixing my exhaust. Would a Catless dp with a cat back be a bad idea? Any information is very much appreciated thanks!!

i think as long as you are on a factory tune, you are not going to get the pop and crackle you want. i ran a catless downpipe, a full stainless custom exhaust system, a straight-through type muffler and a stage 1 tune and didnt get anything like that. i think in order to get that effect, you need to be on the rich side of the AFR.

I'm catless and full stainless to twin tips at the back with a resonator delete. Also has a tune and injectors blah blah... Its loud enough to be noticeable inside and outside of the car but not annoying. I let my buddy drive it and was able to hear a gentle gurgle when he let off the gas but nothing near a pop. Makes the most noise at low rpms under load or letting off at mid- low rpms. IMO its perfect, not too loud not too quiet and keeps the neighbors happy when I leave for work in the morning. Even if I build it further I will keep this exhaust. Makes the 1.8 sound decent and its not a very complicated setup! Another buddy did some "performance driving" in the kowalskis parking lot with it recently and it wasn't enough noise to trigger the bored local cops. I think that's a win?
