    Oil leaking into intercooler hose?

Hey there, 2015 a4 with APR stage 2 and 57K miles. Suffering from some oil consumption issues, I thought the b8.5 models had this fixed from the b8 oil issues but I guess not? My last oil change the mechanic noticed oil leaking into the intercooler hose. Liquimoly molygen at 55K miles and after 2K miles my mmi is showing half remaining. Does the tune cause more oil consumption? Also, what cost should I be looking at for this repair, mechanic told me to look into catch cans for a possible fix.

A small amount of oil in the IC coupler hoses is normal, especially if running higher than stock boost. A larger amount, especially if oil needs to be added between scheduled changes, would suggest that turbo seals may be letting oil get by, or excessive crankcase pressure (bad PCV valve).

    in a word "NOPE"

8.5 oil consumption due to rings is on the rise . I was one of the first to report it and was told ... i don't know what i'm talking about .. after my rebuild and i showed the evidence people realized trouble was coming . a lot more 8.5s are showing the issue now that mileage is increasing

I can not speak specifically to your case however.

What trouble are you talking about? I know my timing belt trouble will kick in soon around 70K but what other things should I be aware of?

The PCV dumps into the turbo inlet under boost. This is how oil makes it to your intercooler, and some is normal. For example, if I pull the hose off either end of the intercooler and point it downward, some drops of oil will fall to the ground. And I'll see oil color on the inside bottom of the intercooler port. You'll never not have this. If you really want to see the oil, follow the tube back up to the PCV, pull the securing screw and pull it out of the PCV (you kind of have to wiggle it past the coil and wiring); clean up on aisle 4.

Now, if you're PCV is defective and passing more oil than normal or your turbo is defective and leaking oil into the inlet, yeah, these are not normal.

I'm sure a boosted engine will consume more oil. And remember the FID (I won't call it MMI since I have no idea if you actually have MMI) gauge for oil is just showing the distance, roughly, from full to add a quart. It's not your full oil capacity. So if you've burned half a quart in 2k miles, yeah, it's not great, but it's not bad either.

As for a catch can, your car is still going to kick the oil out either way. The amount at the intercooler should be a non-issue, but hey, if you've got money weighing you down.

I don't think theres anything wrong with my turbo, so it probably is the PCV. I was just surprised at the level of oil displayed at the FID, usually I would run double the miles before seeing it at half level. Assuming the PCV is defective, I would be guessing the cost to replace it would be around 400-500, unless I'm mistaken.

"usually I would run double the miles before seeing it at half level", ok so this is clearly a change from your norm then.

Could be the PCV then. Or other consumption of oil, unless you've had the intercooler hoses off before and it's clearly more oily now than previously. At idle, the PCV is dumping into the intake manifold. So even if you didn't see more oil in the intercooler hoses, the PCV might still be dumping more oil than necessary, just at idle.

It's not "too" expensive to replace. The only thing that sucks is it's easy to strip those screw holes if you're not super careful. I've had to helicoil two of them already. Torque spec is 11Nm, I usually stop at 9Nm. $150 for the Audi OE piece, AK white cap as you're a 2015. As for the third party ones, ....

B8 uses TSI 4-cyl motors, so timing chain. There hasn't been a belt since B7 for A4 4-cyl (FSI motors). You should review the adaptation value for a heads up on when you need to look at the timing gear. There's a thread around here on it.
