How to find out if your valves are bent

I recently went through a problem with my cam adjuster falling apart inside it's housing, when this happened it locked up the cams and bent 4 valves. I replaced each one of them to be safe and waiting on my gasket set to get here so I can put it all together again.

I saw a lot of posts about bent valves and how to figure it out, and the only way I seen that anyone had an idea of, was compression checks and so I forth.

But what about the fella without a compression checker, or access to one. That was me.

I figured it out, by taking my intake off and shining a flash light through my spark plug hole, which then could see the light coming out the bent valves.

    HOWEVER

I did notice something when I was doing all this work.

On the 4 valves I bent, they were lower inside the head, obviously cause they were bent.

Under the cams are rockers with rollers on the end. Those rollers are to make contact with the cams at all times. Because those valves were shorter than the others, those rollers had play in them because the cams wasn't holding them down against the top of the valve.

So, this may not be 100%. But if you suspect bent valves, and it's easy for you to pull off your valve cover..... Cause let's face it guys, if your a b7 owner, your also a pro mechanic on these hateful cars lol
Wiggle all your rockers under the cams and can girdle. If they wiggle, chances are those valves are bent.

Hope this helps as gives some insight to some of you out there. We're the only ones keeping the b7s alive. We must be outta our minds...lol
