Issues with hood latch not locking correctly

I parked my car about a year ago due to life and some other things. I'm trying to get my car back on the road but cant figure out this damn latch. I can shut the hood and it will catch, but I try to push down and it never locks. It looks like the arm with the arrow drawn to it should have a cable to it but I dont understand where it would come from. Using a screwdriver i can push the latches together to get it to lock and the release works. But if I shut the hood and open it the right arm is shoved out of the way. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

Don’t push that all the way down. There is supposed to be a cable release. If you completely lock it without the cable in place you will hate your life. The cable runs along where the rubber engine bay seal is from where the ECU box is all the way around.

The release cable is there and hooked up underneath that arm to a bracket that connects to it but seems to move independently. Is the hood release supposed to hook up top to that arm to? Or better yet does anyone have a picture of their locking assembly I can compare to.

Issues with hood latch not locking correctly

There are two spots for a cable on the latch on the s4 it goes around the back. I’ll assume the other one is for a different model. maybe the a6? Did you look at the bumpers maybe they are turned out? It seems like a stupid question but there isn’t anything in the fenders or anything that might be blocking it? I always forget tools right there and it pisses me off when I slam the hood on it.

If you can get it to latch something must be holding the hood up.

No I dont believe there is anything stopping it. The whole hood will come down and will totally sit flush with the fenders but just wont lock when down which makes me think that the arm on the right should have some sort of tension on it to keep it in place to lock.

Whitey- You're correct. There's a spring that forces that paw towards the drivers side of the mechanism. You should be able to push that paw back and feel the tension of the spring---maybe the paw pin is binding or the spring is damaged---from your photo it looks like I'm seeing the tail of that spring-
    Here's a photo of mine-

Ok judging off your picture I do have everything there. Cable is in the correct spot and that spring is in place. I see it move when I move the arm by hand but definitely not putting any return pressure on the arm. So I can move it where ever even with the spring still stretched the whole way open. So at this point I think your right and either that pin is binding or the spring might just be wore. I really appreciate the picture man it cleared alot up for me.
