Cooling fan switch/control

Hi,

Audi A4 B6 2.0.

When I start the car the cooling fans start running and turn of after about 7 minutes.

Anyone who has an idea what controls the cooling fans? Is it just a faulty switch? If yes, where would it be located?

on my B7, I had odd cooling fan behavior because of water at the bottom of the ECU housing. Might check that? Not sure if this is an issue for the B6 but a common source of trouble with the B7.
