So my oil pump... everyone knows the story... I’m going to have to rebuild my 2.0t I am currently running JHM BT kit but my mechanic says... built motors are no good for long drives aka road trips...
Not sure what to think at this moment... any ideas?

I rebuilt my motor 20k miles ago with je pistons and ie rods and I’ve taken the car on a few different trips ranging from 2-5 hours long with no issue.

Why would a built motor not be suitable for long drives? If the car couldn’t take a 3000 mile road trip I’d be more concerned/pissed about the engine builders skill level and not the parts used.

also just for laughs, pretend we all dont know the story, a lot of thread fly through here every day.

i would suggest you think long and hard about the costs and work involved in rebuilding your motor, vs dropping a different motor in , vs is it even worth fixing. i'm not saying don't do it because i did, i'm just saying make sure the math makes sense , or would you be better off dropping that coin into a new car and cutting your losses.
For guys cars tend to be emotional decisions, jut think about how much the b7 is even worth these days.
But if you need an oil pump wrench in a pump and move on

Maybe stick with OEM pistons but upgrade the rods and you'll be fine with what JHM's kit can crank out. The main issues you'll see with driveability for a daily is with pistons not having the appropriate metallurgy for more constant state daily driving scenarios. OEM pistons should be good to 400hp or so which is more than the JHM kit is goin got make most likely.

Yeah. It’s only a 400 CHP turbo going from Dru’s weight of 3600 pounds and his ET of 12.1. 425 if you use 3800 pounds.

Rods and OEM rings would be fine besides the obvious hardware refresh. There’s no need to go all out. Even needing rods is debatable.
