    Purchasing 2016 S7(CPO) or 2014 RS7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

In the market for a 2016 S7(CPO) or 2014 RS7. I have read pages and pages of experiences on both of these cars and some of the major and minor concerns from blown turbos to TD1. Need some help just pulling the trigger on which one.

Is the MMI update in 2016 that significant?

I have already accepted the price of RS7 brake replacement, is the S7 significantly less?

Will i regret not jumping on the opportunity to own and RS7?

The RS7 I'm looking at already has had the turbos and screen replaced and has an APR stage 1 tune. The dealer told me that the CPO S7 has not and has no tune and no TD1.

I drive about 15k miles a year for work, 90% highway. This would be my daily.

I appreciate the help and any advice...

Depends how much miles are on both cars tbh and then price difference. I also like the post facelift headlights and taillights which is why I went with a 2016 S7

Not sure of the mileage, but based on what you've described, the RS7 is the clear winner.. The preventative maintenance is done and performance upgrades are already well on their way.. Only if you planned to keep your car stock for the duration of your ownership or want/need to have OEM warranty, then the S7 is the way to go..

mmi is not the only update from 14 to 16.
front/rear lights are major cosmetic changes
One of the biggest things i just found out about for MMI is the lack of displaying the map in the cluster without having a destination programmed for years prior to MY16. seems minor, but i use it all the time.
and of course apple CarPlay/android auto. EDIT: incorrect info. carplay/AA not until MY17

what are the options in the rs7 compared to the s7?

Thanks for the feedback. They are optioned pretty similar. RS7 has around 45k in miles.

Going the S7 route has me able to look around for one possibly an audi exclusive interior. But i just can't get away from the urge for the RS7.

I totally agree that apple car play is a great feature. I've used it before but in a touch screen application and like it. The maps issue won't be a huge concern considering I rarely use the Nav system in my cars.

If CPO warranty is important to you with the amount of driving that you do , then the s7 is the way to go.
If its not, and you're going to tune further or are wiling to take a chance , then RS7 it is.
You can always get a facelifted or newer Gen RS7 down the road once your CPO warranty expires on the S7.

Overlooked question...were the RS7's turbos and screen replaced preventatively or after the turbos went out on their own? Possibility of other damage lurking?

Rs7 is for sure the better car. But I would personally be concerned about buying a previously tuned one unless I knew the owner. Add to the mix that the turbos blew, and I would stay away. Means appropriate preventative maintenance was not done and the car may have been beat to shit. Could be a great deal, but not worth the risk (it wouldn’t be to me at least).

Search around and see if you can find another rs7 to compare to the s7. Or just get the s7 if you aren’t concerned with getting an 11 second car vs a 10 second car (all depends on what you are looking for)

I'm pretty well in the same dilemma (don't wanna hijack thread); 2 options...

    2018 Audi S7:
    - $78,515 CDN/Interest @ 3.8%
    - 15,000KM
    - CPO
    - AUDI CARE
    - WINTER TIRE PACKAGE
    - Options: Driver Assistance, Sport Package, Black Optics, 21" Rotor Design Matte Titanium

    OR

    2016 Audi RS7 Performance:
    - $84,000 CDN (Potentially lower)/Interest @ 5.24%
    - 22,000KM
    - Warranty up August 2020
    - No Audi Care that I'm aware of
    - No winter tires package
    - FULLY LOADED

    Any advice/input would certainly help!

If you like the 7 body style, get the RS7, especially, if you do not plan to get it tuned. Both cars are facelift C7.5 models.

Another vote for the RS7. You'll spend a lot more trying to get the S7 to the performance and handling of the RS7.

This is a hard one due to C7/C7.5 and the age difference. The MMI in the C7.5 is quite a bit faster, but the RS7 will be quite a bit faster on the road, especially with stage 1. I'd still be worried with things going wrong on the 2014 RS7 and these are not cheap cars to repair. As I say, it's a hard one...

Trevhoff, I actually appreciate someone going through the same thing. Misery loves company.

I keep going back to the CPO cars. I feel like it gives me some protection "when" the turbos go out.

    +1 for RS7

I have a CPO (for now, ha ha) stage 2 S7 2014 (oil screen replaced) - I got my car 1 year ago and have the itch to get an RS7 that I don’t think will go away.

Go RS7 and never look back

OP, I've had CPO cars and non CPO cars. If I didn't buy new (like I did this time) I would take a CPO car every time. CPO on my S5 paid for itself tenfold and learned my used car lessons. We can only give our .02 cents, but boy, I'd take a CPO all day long vs a non one...not to mention you'd get the updates of a C7.5 car. If Carplay/AA is important to you as well, I've read many reports of '16 C7.5 owners adding it with little trouble. Get the '16 S7 CPO.

***Edit*** Here's the info for 2016...thread right above. Only $155 bucks.

Exactly, CPO is such a peace of mind that I keep going back to. Plus with additional Audi Care and winter tires for my climate in Canada being very necessary is a $5500 CDN value. Plus the S7 is $5000 less expensive. I am at over $10,000 less going with the S7. PLUS anything goes wrong with the vehicle my butt is covered until year 2024 vs. 2020 with the RS7.

Test driving both 16' RS7 and 18' S7 both are very powerful cars. In reality can you REALLY even use the 605 horse power on regular roads?

rs7 with 605 hp is performance only. im sure the one the OP is looking at is the base model rs7 with 560 hp

with that said, if you go with CPO, double check everything. dealers have been known to sell TD1'd or cars with significant damage as CPO.

Forgot to mention the difference in interest rate would bring me closer to a $13,000CDN difference.

The mature adult in me is telling myself to go with the S7. While the kid in me is telling me go with the RS7.

Correct, however, given my situation I have the 605hp performance option.
