This is all just my thoughts and how i came to the decision i made.

THIS IS NOT A PAID SPONSORSHIP REVIEW!!!

I bought my car CPO and obviously love the idea of having a car with a warranty. in the price range we were looking $20-25K there were several cars and manufactures to look at for a 4 door "Dad car". ultimately we ended up choosing an Audi A3 obviously. Once I bought the car and started driving it and loving it, I soon realized that, being a car guy I knew the car had more in it. I did a LOT of research on all the different options. Burger Tuning, APR, Unitronic, Eurodyne, IE, and Malone to name most of them. I knew that I wanted more from the car, and having bought an Audi I know its not always just about price. I did a LOT of reading on different forums and websites. I realized there is NO guarantee that if you modify the car the dealership will not find out. I decided to be up front about it and asked my service rep at the dealership I bought it from how they handle modified cars. his response was that most of the guys there had tunes as well and just to remove it before any service. so then it came down to risk/reward of each. Unitronic obviously is a great buy power/cost wise and was leaning towards them at first, then I heard about APR Plus. After searching high and low for Tune only stats on APR Plus A3's I just could not seem to find any. i contacted APR and asked what kind of info they could provide me as well as explain the warranty part of the program a bit more. after several emails and a lot of reading online about the program, I decided to go ahead and buy the PLUS ECU/TCU for the car. according to what i had read any kind of low 13 second 1/4 mile time would be great for the car/platform with no other modifications. We live in PA so the tracks are not open in the winter time. i purchased a dragy and found some "mexico" roads and decided to make some runs at night. after seeing what it claimed the car was capable of i decided to take it to ATCO and try it out, however the one thing i did not realize was that the shop who did the flash had chosen 3500RPM LC instead of the normal 4K LC setting. so my first time out the car went 13.1 consistently. Part of that is my fault having not been to the track in over 5 years! i forgot to leave the tank under half a tank and filled it up completely before we went out, as well as a trunk full of baby stuff, Pack n Play, luggage, Diaper bag, small cooler with milk for the little one etc) so this past weekend i left the wife and kid at home, had about half a tank of fuel and for grins decided to pull the passenger seat (about 60LBS) out as well as have the LC bumped to 4K. the car ran consistent 12.7's!!!! i know that with other mods (Intake, exhaust, springs to help settle on launch, and stickier tires) that the car could dip a bit more into the mid 12's. What i cannot get over is that this car is under FULL warranty between APR and Audi. i am sure i could have saved some money on the front end by choosing a different tuner, however to the best of my knowledge APR is the only one that offers a warranty with the tune. I almost forgot to mention that the APR Plus tune is the equivalent of their 91 octane low torque tune! these cars are amazing platforms, and can't wait to see what the future holds for MQB cars all around!!

Great write up man, thank you, Trying to decided on getting a A3 S-line and trading in my bolted/tuned Q50. The gas mileage is the reason for me to switch but need something as "quick" as what I drive now. :( 15 MPH sux! LOL

This is not a full warranty from APR, its just a drivetrain warranty from APR. The dealer will void the warranty on the motor when i discussed this with a local audi dealer who is also an APR dealer as well. They will not cover engine issues from the tune. Unless your dealer is looking past that. But i know that when they scan the ecu even if you take the APR tune off they can see it was on there at one time from what others have told me.

To clarify, APR Plus tuning includes a limited powertrain warranty from APR, which includes the engine. Engine tuning goes against the terms of the factory limited powertrain warranty, which is why we sell our own for those not willing to take that risk.

    Hope that helps.

BTW, awesome work Mike! Your A3 is moving!

Much quicker than a S3 stock and marginally faster. I had APR on my A3 and I loved it!
8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

I have a 2018 A3 which I purchased CPO with the 5 year, unlimited mileage powertrain warranty.
Will the APR Plus warranty the drivetrain for this extended period, or just for the standard 4-years 50,000 miles?

    mkbss89,
How much did you pay for the APR+ tune? I have three authorized dealers near me and none of them post pricing!
I also had an XJ: 1996 Sport with a 6-speed and a ton of fun mods. It was built up as a quasi rock-crawler / pre-runner. I loved that car and regret selling it...

It’s just covers the remainder of the standard warranty, the price for the tune was $1099 plus $60 flash fee from the shop I went to, then I did the TCU tune which was ~$600 I think and shop waived other flash fee.. ya I love the Jeep, but I need to sell it, with a little one to take care of the A3 is just a wiser choice... if your interested mines for sale :)
    Hope this answers your questions.

I'm probably going to go with a Burger JB4 so I can maintain my 5year unlimited mileage warranty. The last thing I need is to get in a legal battle over a couple extra HP when my turbo explodes :)

I'm not really in the market for another Jeep right now... I have a 1956 Willys CJ5 that I am paying out the nose to restore right now. It has sentimental value so I can't get rid of it. My grandpa bought it new back in '56, but it was unfortunately left outside to rot for about 25 years.
Post a pic of the XJ! :)
