Does anyone know if transmission code 'NSC' means the car has a gen 2 transmission? The car I am looking at was built April 19, 2013. That's all Audi was able to give me. Thanks!

I'm surprised Audi didn't give you more details. Have your TCU file checked to see if you have the Generation 2 transmission or not.

I'd imagine a cheap diagnostic tool like Carista or OBDeleven can find this information out pretty painlessly for you as well, if you'd like to go that route at all.

If you're unfamiliar with what those are, I'd look into them; they're very neat tools where you can diagnose faults, and customize various features in your vehicle...like removing the seat belt chime/door open dinging noise, etc., among others!

They said they had to look into it further and would email me by Monday. I would do all of those things but I don't have the car yet. This is one I'm interested in purchasing. Thanks for the help though!

Also - feel free to contribute to some sections of the forum where members post photos of their vehicles when you inevitably get your ride; we all looove car p0rn, so the more...the merrier!

When you scan the transmission info, how do you know if itís gen 1, 1.5 or 2? What kind of code you should look for, to determine itís gen 2? I do believe the scan will state transmission generation 2...

It all depends on your box code. I would hope that if you checked with your tuner they would know.

Are those codes what comes up in the scanner? I thought maybe it's part of the VIN but don't recognize it.

    Prepare your anus.

In all honesty. the mech unit is a much better issue to have than the sensor i replaced on mine... but its still a massive headache from audi.

Should have bought a manual... atleast getting the car and having to replace the clutch is 1, expected and 2, an improvement. Congrats on spending at least 600 if not 2000 dollars to get ur car back to where it was before the light.

    Fucking audi DSG is terrible.

If you don't mind me asking, at what mileage did this occur to your 2010 when you found out the hard way? I'm just trying comprehend if your colonoscopy happened on behalf of an original owner, or second-hand.

Yes. I believe it's the gear position sensor module. Tranny needs to be overhauled for replacement.

Quote I got yesterday- about 5k-ish gear selection sensor. They said lots of labor. If it's just mechatronics repair, it'd be around 1k-ish all in from what I read.

My prayer was not answered...I was hoping it was mechatronics when dash warning popped up a few weeks ago.

    To help you,

    98900-ish miles-
first dash warning: "Gear box malfunction. Can drive normally, limited functionality" All gears accessible and functioning despite the warning.

I pulled code with VCDS and checked with the shop. It turns out to be the gear selection sensor. I started crying internally.

My colonoscopy is scheduled in May as I'm dragging about downing PEG3350.

Dear lord!! That sounds like an insane amount?! Can't you put in a whole new trans for that kind of $$ ? Is that a dealer? I'd get another quote at an Indy.

My dude from the shop mentioned I can get a used trans for better price. We're both looking for one.

I'll PM you the name of the shop.

It's an indy shop with really good techs and fantastic service people. They normally get the job done quicker than quoted and do quality work.

B5 days, I was on AudiWorld and then QuattroWorld. Left the Audi scene for 5 years with a CTS-V. Now that I recently bought a B8 S4, I found the traffic for this car is here.

You've only been here a year and multiple people see your posting pattern... we're here to help each other while we enjoy our cars, not find ways to battle each other.

My posting pattern is positive, complimentary, appreciative, and always willing to help those in need.

Itís only once bullies introduce themselves to the conversation who donít appreciate those who donít do their homework or appear to be less knowledgeable than you do you get the ďbattleĒ out of me.

This is a forum, and weíre here to assist and be for the common good...not be at odds.

With that being said, I wish you well...and hope we can benefit from these lovely vehicles as friends rather than enemies.

    Take care!
