    Audi side assist: system fault

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looks like my drivers side (I think CPU 2 means left side) rear bumper module may have gone kaput due to an electrical fault. I'm going to try and remove it and see if maybe it just needs to be cleaned or something, but in the meantime, does anyone know what kind of reprogramming it would entail? Or maybe it wouldn't since it's not the actual control module?

that is cool, i didnt realize c6 a6 had side assist as an option.. is that retrofittable to the 2006-2008 cars i wonder? i would consider that.. probably need rear bumper side mirrors and an ecu so not really feasible

Ok i'm going reach out to ya'll again. So after doing some research, CPU 2 can either mean slave or master depending Audi model. I just pulled the bumper off. Removed the master(passenger side), left slave on, and the controller couldn't be reached. Put the master back on, removed the slave. Pulled the same code. Swapped modules to opposite sides, again, couldn't reach the controller.

So clearly the master has to stay in place or else no communication will result. I'm still pulling the code whether the slave is there or not. The only thing that's got me wondering is if the code corresponds to only when module can be reached and tested or if it will throw the same code if it's not there?

ETA: So after talking with a friend, if the slave is dead, then the dtc gets stored in the master. That explains why the module couldn't be reached period when swapped - due to slave being completely toast.

CPU2 would always be Slave. They are not interchangeable which is why it probable couldn’t be reached a well. After replacing it will have to have component protection removed, coded, parameterized and then the lane change calibration performed.

Ok that’s what I was kind of thinking but wasn’t sure.

Now, regarding calibration. What if I get the same exact part # number and software # module? A poster on Audiworld forums said that you don’t have to recalibrate anything if you can do a direct swap.

Incorrect. The car knows it’s different. It has to be coded and taken out of component protection. It will have no idea where it is or anything so calibration is a must. Guaranteed.

Well, I'm gonna find out either way. I purchased a full set(master and slave) from a seller that has 30 day returns. If the calibration isn't too expensive, then I'll just keep it and go that route. If not, I'll just code out side assist in VCDS so I don't get the DTC.

Shouldn’t be more than a few hours labor at a dealer.

Called the local dealer - $280 on the low end. A bit steep imo. Guess I'll know what i'm in for come this Friday.

ETA: you were right. Too bad it's not as easy. Not sure I want to pay that amount for a readaption considering how little the modules themselves cost.

Did you ever get it fixed?
I have the same fault and i cant erase it. Funny thing is that the fault is stored years ago with half the mileage as now( Just got the car with the fault)
I purchased a used set of radars from Ebay and have just swarped them.
Same error and can not be reased!
I tried to pull the plug on just the left one, the slave and then an extra code came up. I did not save it... Pulling the right one, master and there is no comunication.
So is this just calibration with the new used radars?
