Considering the use that one has seen, I'm surprised it's held up that well.

    Hi George,
Glad to see she is back together ... I have been a drag racer for years (1970 Chevelle SS 582 cu-in). I am really impressed with how these cars handle the abuse of drag racing. That transmission in my opinion is very tough for a stock unit. The repairs you have done are not out of the ordinary and I would call that regular maintenance. Good tips in your footage for all of us. Now onto getting that bumper stitched up .. :) All is good and lots to be happy about ..

I see you have the motor out of the car (I presume that is yours). How is the exhaust manifold holding up, any photos you can share? It's rare that you get to see them after use back outside of a cramped engine bay.

In your test drive video that transmission was very crisp. I wouldn't be surprised if that repair alone shaved off 2 to 3 tenths of a second. When you listen to the motor it sounds really healthy

    Hey George,

If you don't mind, can you tell us where you gain access to those tubes and seals in the trans? Do you have to pull the Mechatronics? The end plate on the trans? Under the clutch basket?

    Just curious...

Looks solid, minus the dirt, for all the abuse you put it through I love the color on the downpipe after a ton of heat cycling. It's such a shame the exhaust manifold sits hidden by the firewall and not at the front of the car.

Tubing “stand pipes” are behind the mechatronic unit in the trans. You would have to pull the mech unit to access them.

Thanks man I really appreciate the kind words I try to post everything I experience with the RS3, what kills the car community is when shops or people hide things to save face . And yea I got lucky.

Looking forward to getting back to racing and driving the car

    Hey George,
    Thanks for the informative video.
Regarding the clutch adaptation you demonstrated, does this reset the transmission or is that different?
I find the transmission quite rough in very slow moving traffic. I was wondering if it was worth trying to reset the transmission so it can re-addapt.
    Appreciate your input.

    Cheers

    Hi George,

Not sure what you are refering to here.

Since I'm fairly new to all this, you mean that tuning companies hide their mistakes to customers ?

Glad to hear it was a relatively simple fix (minus the fact of the labor involved). Also glad to see you up and running again...

Regarding the trans codes you saw... any shift selector errors? Does it miss odd gears or something like that?

Thanks man, yes errors like only slowing certain gears or will stay stuck in 2nd.

Blew my mind that orings leaking could cause all of it.

So this may sound a bit out there..
I've been experiencing what I called an over aggressive ESC. Stomp on the gas and the ESC light would almost always come on, accompanied by that feeling the car is cutting power or almost like a slipping clutch feel. This would happen even on dry/A-type roads. Bought the car new. I'm stock w/barely 2700 miles on it.

On a hunch, I followed George's transmission adaption guide and I swear (mind u with limited testing) the car feels "torquier" and the ESC light doesn't come on as often when punching it. I'll continue to test (normal/sport ESC modes) and report back, just to make sure I'm not imagining things. I could very well be..

If anyone is experiencing a similar issue, you might want to give it a try & see if it helps..

    Hi George,

Thanks for your reply on insta. Care to shed some light / elaborate on how increased clutch clamping pressure in the TCU tunes (??) will help us who are making medium power, avoid burnt clutches!? Is what I am saying accurate? I know when I first saw the clutches in your video it freaked me out! My last vehicle was a high torque trailblazer ss and I burned through 4 transmissions, so this topic is near and dear to me. Thanks!!

It's my understanding the TCU tunes that clamp harder will spend less time slipping your gear changes.. Biting harder, shifting quicker is less spent "burning" clutches. Stock TCU tune probably slips the clutches between gears likely allowing more torque to transfer through the slipping of gears vs slamming into gears but that's sort of what has been explained to me.

What are your wheel and tire specs front and rear? Only ever seen this occur with incompatible f/r sizes. Happened to me when I ran 255/30 front and 235/35 rear PS4S on 19x8.5 square wheels.

Thanks!!
Current Custom Code trans software is more than enough for stock turbo street driven cars.

However keep in mind there are some of us who drag race and abuse these cars on a back to back basis at the track or Mexico so to speak.

Most of us doing that are either Big Turbo or hybrid turbo and making 680whp+ and beating on the car and a side effect of making thag kind of power and driving so hard is the stock clutch packs take a toll.

More clamping pressure will help avoid slippage but the big killer of clutch packs in these cars are heat.

I posted a feeler seeing what a running motor and used IMS850 kit would go for to gauge future plans and direction with the car.

Well, I don't know what to say, I am shocked. I thought you fixed the transmission issue and moved on. Iron recently posted a picture of a buckled rod and implied that it was due to making lots of power. I haven't seen your engine pulled apart so I am hoping is not your car/engine. I just wouldn't understand you dismantling your engine (parting it out) because it will give you with no logical alternatives. Why would you put your engine/turbokit for sale? I totally see putting the IMS 850 for sale though, that would be like stepping down from the pedestal and walking back on earth again(you were up high on power). as far is the engine parting out, unless you are putting a fully bolt one I just don't see what would be the purpose.

You have your share of fame, glory and recognition form everyone and you proved your self over and over but maybe a step down in power would be beneficial in the long range.. maybe I am wrong.

It seemed a little more than a feeler ;)
Not trying to be a dick, but you did get the attention I suspect you were trying to get.
And, afa the rod, not to knock IROZ, who's ever car that was, it was not remotely the only 2.5L engine to get fudged.
Not knocking CC, cuz all BT tuners are not capable to produce a tune that is engine damage proof.

Have no idea who’s car you are hinting at.

As soon as we hit the drag strip soon and smash the stock motor and stock trans record for the RS3 I’m sending the car to Iroz for a full build, upgraded clutches and I would like to go Syvecs
