Airbag module 65535 from struggling cold start

65535.V48023 Internal Control Module Memory: Checksum Error

Did a lot of reading. What cars come with the K air bag module? B5 A4, passat?

Most similar issues popped up from very cold temps low voltage starts resulting in this. Most said 65535 “intermittent” mines “checksum error” same code. A few threads mentioned it going away once warmer out.

Rosstech mentions it’s not bad but from voltage issues:

    Anyone ever use this?

Similar search found another thing called a zombie box or something working but needing to be used 6-10 times a year after a few years of it working.

Ultimate fix I guess is to RR

If I can just grab one from a passat or a4 and soft recode if that’s the “k” module. I’ll just do that, but 20 some bucks to reset the hard fault is better digging to get the module from 2 cars to make a fix.

I assume the above thing is more than what the vagcom would do to the fault code.

Yes, the answer I was hoping to see! Thanks. And I see that the “k” box perhaps doesn’t do the seat airbags...

The checksum error or Intermittent? I’m not sure if there is a difference since it’s the same code number.

Does that scanner work to clear the light even with no code? I have the airbag light, I'm guessing due to the cold here. I have scanned it and it comes up clear. Just annoying and not sure that if the light is on, will the bags still work?

You have to go into the “airbag” section of the scanner. Don’t think the bags will work when the lights on like they’re supposed to.

I do go to the Airbag tab on the VCDS to scan it, still no codes.

I know. I kept hearing people say, if it's below a certain temp the light will come on. I would assume that a connectivity fault would pop up but it's blank.

I have also heard that if no fault codes that the brain box might be bad and that is what I thought that this was covering, the replacement or another suitable part.

Its a hard code. Vcds won't erase the code. My understanding is the reseter recodes the module.

Airbag module 65535 from struggling cold start

I just ordered it from eBay. Searching eBay it didn’t come up right away. I paid it hopefully coming from NJ, but paypal threw Chinese letters at me as the seller when it went through. Probably should just order it cheaper directly from China save 5 bucks if it’s coming from there anyway.

I had this on mine and the only way to solve that was buy a new control module.
I bought one of those erasers but no luck.

I also have a good file for it but didn't found way to flash the control module

Same one the black box with the two buttons? Do you know which code you had “intermittent” or “checksum”. Oh well for 25 bucks it’s worth a shot then I’ll get to digging the module out. Def died because the cold, voltage drop cranking.

Hey good news that eBay airbag handheld device did the trick. Cost me 25 but just get the one that comes from China as it’s gonna come from there anyway cheaper. Saved me from digging into my dash.
