    B7 A4 2.0t fsi BPG, Golf R cam swap

Hey guys, this is my first post of my own on here. I am well rounded with knowledge for Audi from the b5-b7 model, and a trickle on the b8. Also, I have owned 3 b5 A4's, 1 b7 A4, and 1 c5 A6, which I recently did my own timing belt service on. Needless to say, I'm pretty handy, and not afraid to dive in.
Now that you know this, here is where I come to you guys for some knowledge/encouragement. My B7 A4 had the dreadful cam follower issue where there was a hole punched through it, and destroyed my hpfp. Fast forward to today, I have replaced everything but the cams, and I am full ko4 build with all of the supporting mods. I recently decided that I was done with the slight fuel cuts, and that it was time to replace the cam/cams. I have read all over, and instead of going with stock replacements, or S3 cams, I saw someone say that they used a 2013 model Golf R intake cam as their replacement, and it gave him more low-mid range power. So I bought one and I'm still waiting for it to ship. However, I haven't seen anyone post that they used the exhaust cam from the Golf R.... In theory, it should work, because both motors are 2.0t engines. So my question is, has anyone on here done this? Is it possible? Any knowledge to pass on? Thank you guys in advance!!IMG_20180915_154031311.jpeg

I recently installed this cam in my 05.5 b7 and honestly i couldnt tell a difference at all... it seems like its a little more "clicky" though because of the increas of lift and duration. Might change performance a bit if your tuner can adjust for it....

Little update, finally received the last bit of items that I was waiting on to do this job. As of Sunday night, I have both cams removed from the car, and I called it quits for the night after spending about an hour drilling the stripped cam adjuster bolt out of the exhaust cam. Yes I bought the special poly drive socket for it, but still didn't have luck until I just about drilled all the way down the head of the bolt, fit the poly drive socket snug into the bolt, and was able to back it out. Took some doing, but got the job done. I will get more pictures when I get the chanceIMG_20190226_185920_457.jpg

This is what the poly drive bolt looked like after I drilled it out some, and was still able to fit the tool in there, and it actually fit tighter this way. The bolt came right out after that.IMG_20190227_121730615.jpg

Little update again. I was able to drop the cams in place, cover everything in assembly lube, and put the chain in time last night. I just received my anearobic sealant activator today for the cam cradle, so I'll be bolting them down with the ARP cradle bolts tonight when I get home from work. I also used this downtime waiting for the activator to do the clear corner mod to my headlights, and replace all of my bulbs with better ones! The plan is to get this car finished within the next couple weeks.IMG_20190310_223219_252.jpgIMG_20190311_131547630.jpeg

As of last night, the hard part is done. Had an issue with the timing for the cams, it was a tooth off, and took a bit to get everything back where it should be, but everything is all timed up now and kosher. Now all I have to do is start buttoning everything back up!IMG950097.jpgIMG950098.jpg

So I've been picking away at it for about an hour or so here and there, replaced the harmonic balancer, another pulley, and was able to get the radiator support back on the front of the car. Should be done by this weekendIMG_20190322_012421599.jpgIMG_20190322_022753788.jpeg

Alright everyone, the car is pretty much done, but I am waiting for my new turbo muffler to come in, so I can finish tightening the intercooler piping up, and fit the front bumper back on. I had my buddy hold the intercooler boot up to the part where the turbo muffler would be, so the air could still flow a little bit to the intake, and I was able to fire the car up and let it run for a little bit, and even though the car stumbled quite a bit because the piping wasn't sealed all the way, the motor itself sounded pretty healthy! I also added a zinc additive to the liqui molygen oil that I used, just to help the brand new cams stay strong. I'm hoping to get the turbo muffler in within the next couple of days so that I can get a video of it running, and see if it throws any codes. Stay tuned! Please let me know if anyone is actually following this!IMG_20190324_193716054.jpegIMG_20190324_194449129.jpeg

Thanks for this thread. I know Im a year + late to it, but am interested to know if 1.) you only went with the Golf R intake cam 2.) you saw any difference with the Gold R cam(s)? 3>ever got on a dyno?

The golf R intake cam only has 1 difference. The fuel pump lobe allows more fuel. That’s it.

The exhaust cam has a slightly different profile than stock. Very slight. This cam swap is a lot of time and money for little gain unless you’re K04 or higher and are tuned for it.

Just go to ECSTuning dot com or FCP and look up engine parts for 2012-13 VW Golf R. Unless you are doing a necessary repair or rebuild, this is not really good spend. No significant gains. I did it when I was doing a high performance motor build but otherwise I wouldn't waste the money.

    Exhaust is 06F109102F

Intake looks to be updated to J revision:
    06F109101J

Original that was posted elsewhere here is 06F109101H, then there was a K model 06F109101K for full background, in case anyone else is looking for this as I just got both.
At the moment it appears the exhaust is backordered in a lot of places US side.
