    MAF sensor harness black wire?

Iím trying to resolve the ghetto wiring that my mechanic did to my bosch MAF sensor plug for my 2001 A4. I understand from other forum post that pin no 1 on the plug is unused. But Iím still wondering about that small black wire that comes from the same sheath with the green signal wire. Currently it is cut by the previous mechanic and left hanging. Should I connect it to anything or ground instead?

I tried running the car with it hanging (unconnected). So far the car runs fine but not sure the effect to other measurements such as fuel consumption.
