can i turn off the auto-ON-when-in-reverse/backing up-rear wiper?

every time i back out of the garage, the rear wiper wipes and it's that awful dry Dryper wipe sound. i read the manual, and it says it defaults when placed in Reverse to make rear wiper wipe.

any way to turn this off with vagcom/rosstech?

am i missing something?

TBH - full disclosure - the real issue is EVERYTIME MY WIFE backs out of the garage....i hear about the rear wiper....married audiziners will know where i'm coming from

Lol! Mine does not do this at all. It must be some setting somewhere. What position is your wiper control stalk in and the rain sensor sensitivity settings?

I agree with turbophreak. Sounds like you have your wiper stalk in the “automatic” position. One click down will turn it off.

Admittedly it shouldn’t be doing that when there isn’t any moisture present, so you might want to have the dealer check it out next time you need service.

Agreed, I keep mine in auto all the time and it only wipes if the rain sensor picks up, otherwise it doesn't move at all. Not sure what the 18 settings are in the MMI that are available. I thought you could disable in VCDS. Found this in another forum for S4 but should be similar if it's possible on the Q5. Might get close at least even if it's a different byte.

1. Open controller 09 - 'Cent. Elec'.
2. Open 07 - coding, then open long coding helper.
3. Byte 21.
4. Bit 6: 'Automatic rear window wiping with reverse gear active' Tick to activate

Just checked on both my Q5 and A4 and the rear wiper doesnt come on in R unless the sensor is activated by rain.

It has to be a malfunctioning rain sensor. OP does your wipers wipe on their own, with no rain, if the wiper stalk is left in auto?

It might even be something as weird as something in your garage triggering the sensor. The rain sensor works off of light diffraction. Maybe light is hitting it juuuust right to trip the sensor. Crazy stuff like that used to happen all the time with my S4.
