Question engine swap and now starter not fucntioning

swapped out my engine - 06 2.0T for a 08 2.0T - and never disconnected the wiring to the starter.
Everything all back together and the first time i turned the key i get one click from starter but no spinning. Turn again and not even a click. Lights don't even dim when i turn the key which tells me the starter istn't getting any juice at all (it'd be so easy to test if it wasn't buried underneath the turbo manifold).
Q1: where is the starter relay and/or fuse located (i'm sure a forum search would turn up the answer but i'm lazy)
Q2. is there a fusible link going to the starter or such? Or is there possibly a connector somewhere in the starter wriing that's loosened or failed.
again i never disconnected the starter from the car, just unbolted and let it dangle when i swapped the motors. As an aside, the motor turns easily by hand so there shouldn't be a problem with resistance preventing the starter from turning.

No fusible link on these cars. Easiest way to test is to remove it and touch 12 v to the positive and attach negative to the frame of starter. I’d suggest mounting into a vice to do this but it can be pretty funny watching the thing skip around in the driveway. If it worked b4 you began it’ll likely work now.

Take your battery leads off and tap them together a few times. If your suspecting a relay this will usually reset any relays (I’d need to check the Bentley book for where those are but I suspect under your ECU). Also make sure your alternator wire is connected properly. Iirc it comes all the way around behind the engine, up under the intake and attached to the alternator.

Main engine to chassis ground is located near the right engine mount. Probably not secured after the swap

I just had the same problem. As others said, the ground wire from the passenger side wasn't hooked up. Found where it goes, above the motor mount, bam, starter work's.

    solved
ground wire by passenger side motor mount was loose. But not even that much loose, only an extra quarter turn on the wrench.
Would these engines benefit from having additional grounding? Only reason i ask is i had an old ALFA that ran very poorly until i added an extra 10 Ga grounding strap to the engine.
