M5 Comp, BO, Tune vs. S2E85 TTRS

Don't think that M5 is putting down 700 whp if the TT can claw back at speed. Gotta luv the RS gearing. TT musta been asleep at the wheel on the launch.

Dr Merl - I want instant gratification, so can you just write me a script for SPEED?.....or do I need to take a 4" turbo inlet and intake, larger FMIC, and S2 E85 tune....see how it feels, and then call you in the morning?

Lol, take two tunes and call me in the morning.

Go the full monty with E85, need some injectors and a down pipe too. The Wagner IC is great if you're going to stay stock turbo. Watch your VMI (vehicle mass index), drop some pounds and eat your carrots.

Defiantly possible that the M5 has 700 horse, always gotta remember Power/Weight ratios. Those M5’s ain’t light.

Always interesting watching run-what-u-brung cars go at it. M5 starts with about 630 crank, like most German engines it puts out WHP close to rated crank, 617 whp with 606 torque, so I think you're right, it may be very close to 700 whp with a big dollop of torque with those parts. S2E85 DAZA gets anywhere from 489whp/444tq to 550ish-whp/530ish-tq depending on dyno and pixie dust. M5 has .31 CD and TTRS .30 CD = meh. Both can get to 190. Weight difference is huge, but doesn't make as much of a difference at higher speeds, bimmer compensates with gobs of torque. It opens a gap but even with side wash the DAZA reels in the more powerful engine, maybe the M5 turbos are running out of efficiency range or not enough cooling. Surprising because the bimmer should have at least 100 more WHP - that should have been a spank, but I guess hippos can only dance so well =)

Check this one out, FBO E85 RS3 vs 2019 M5 Comp tune - M5 shows the torque, but again gets (slowly) reeled in. It may be the gearing is funky in the M5, like 5th gear in the newer Vettes. Audi did us a solid with the DQ500.

I think what is often forgotten is the way a car makes its power and how that power is delivered. There's a reason why a lot of these cars seem to punch well above their weight when roll racing. Our gearing in the DQ500 and the overall torque curve is pretty damn beneficial to us in straight line exhibitions. My torque curve in my TC800XT equipped car looks suspiciously similar to what you would see on a positive displacement supercharged car. Granted, it doesn't come on quite as hard but, it certainly comes on harder than most people would expect, then it carries in a way that most positive displacement superchanged cars don't. It's damn near as flat as a table from 3kish to 5252 where it falls off ever so slightly until redline. My C7 Z06 and ZL1 1LE both had eerily similar looking graphs, albeit their power figures were no where near as high but the torque came on sooner.

While I have yet to race anything that has beaten me out where I'm at, I know that it's certainly possible, of course. But generally speaking, I'll typically walk into a roll race against someone between 800-1000whp and feel confident that I'll win. There are exceptions to that, of course. 1100-1200whp Hellcat's would be fun to race but, I've raced and beaten TT Coyote's, Whipple Coyote's, FBO E85 meth hybrid MKVs, nitrous Corvettes, etc., etc. But I'm not foolish enough to think I'm invincible but I do understand why the car is winning those races.

I agree with the power delivery, you can make smallish turbo engines bite the bigger fish with table top TQ graphs. The RS turbo used to be fairly large (in the late 90's). For stock it breaths fairly well up top on E85, but now it's common to see hair dryers that swallow small children. Would be interesting with your gear to run a bigger turbo B58 Supra/BMW, mild Sheepy R8, TT Lamb, ZR1 or the dreaded, hooptie, AWD boosted Civic =)

Lightish weight in the TTRS combined with a great heat pump and engine management gives a fun "I'm not letting up until you do" feel. I run into some of the big bling you tube cars, lots of frisky BMWs, Audis and Supras along the coast. It's a hoot playing with Ferraris, Porsches, MBZ GTs (the ancient ones like those), NA Lambos and R8s. Out ran a 911 GT3 RS on long freeway roll, then I realized I needed better brakes. Had a new Acura RSX that wanted to play traffic football heading to a car meet, couldn't keep up, surprised me, same for a couple of stickered up NA Lambs. There's really not much space out here to utilize too much top end, lighter weight, quick boost and good gearing gets it. The fat hellkitties around here have not kept up, I'm assuming they are stock, they're like barn doors in the wind. I like giving range anxiety luv to the Teslas except for the damn Plaid, Teslas are everywhere here and breading like rabbits. Kids like that torque hit and think they're fast, like the old 5.0 (4.9) Stangs, but fall on their face after 100. A few Z06s and Coyotes are around, but too much sound, not enough go, a boosted one likely drop me. Always interesting going for prowls around here. It's a neat experience knowing you're pretty fast already, but when some other blows your doors off, daaaym.

In some instances that may be the case but, WG rattle is rather prominent and consistent. When I was still using Unitronic, my WG rattle was quite frankly, embarrassing. Now with DS1, I have absolutely no perceptible WG rattle and I actually enjoy the overall sound of my exhaust in general. But it wouldn't hurt for folks to check out their exhaust valves to see if what they're hearing could be valve rattle. But admittedly, they have a very different tone.

Hmm. I wonder what his overall setup consists of? I'm not even sure if I could top end a Plaid like that after he gets the jump off the light.

Nothing crazy. He’s got a rear seat delete, lightweight battery, lightweight seats, carbon ceramic brakes, 18” Wedssports, Hoosier DR2s, Unitronic 4” intake/inlet, 1300cc injectors, 625+ head studs, pistons/rods, dp/midpipes, and he’s Darin tuned.
