    Tire Fitment Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got a 20" 5 double-spoke Black Optics wheel that came with 265/30/20 summer tires. From the research I'm thinking it might be an 8.5 rim? I can't find the exact width. I'm wanting to put Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on it, but the only size that it's available in is a 275/30/20. I'm doing this so I don't have to switch summers and winters. The tire vendor is telling me that it won't fit on the rim because it's too wide? Does this sound right? I know that the RS5s come with 275/30/20 so I thought that it would be a fit. Looking for some insight

    I have the same wheels. Pretty sure they're a 9" wheel, not a 8.5".

Edit: I looked at your pic and the wheels you show on your car are not the same as mine. Are those the wheels you're referring to?

No those are the stock 18" ones that came on my 16. I've got a 15 6sp manual now with the Black Optics package with the 20" 5 double-spokes in titanium matte. I've had RS5 rotors before that were 20s and those came with 275/30/20. Just wondering why the 275 won't fit. Only thing that I can figure out is that it's an 8.5" rim.

Yeah 275 is really the widest you can fit on a 9" wheel. I'm going down to 265/30/20 on my RS5 rotors when I need new tires. For an 8.5" wheel you probably want 255, 265 is about the max.

I guess so. The door jamb for the factory tires says 265/30/20 at 44psi. Unfortunately, there are no all-season tire options for that size. Strangely there is for 275/30/20 with the DWS06 and Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I didn't want to do the summer/winter route but bit the bullet and did get the Pirelli Winter Sotozero 3.

The tire shop can pretty quickly measure the wheel with a large wheel caliper and tell you the exact width, it should also be stamped on the back side of the wheel if you take it off the car. If they're 9" you can go with the 275/30-20 A/S 3+ since they list the acceptable width range from 9-10".

You can look at the back side of the wheel... all the specs are stamped or cast into the rear face. Diameter, (19) width (9) and offset (+33)

These are just what to look for, not what your specs may be....

    Hey all,

This is very interesting to me as I just ordered summer wheels that are 20 x10.5 ET 30 and was told for guaranteed no rub to use 275/30R20. I asked about 285/30R20 and was told that some have reported rub and some have reported no rub. When comparing it to the info above it seems a little off...

    Thoughts?

Alot of that depends on how low your car is sitting. I run that exact size wheel/tire with 3-5mm spacers with very little rubbing issues and I'm pretty aggressively lowered. I'd stick with the 275.

If your wheels are the same ones that are on the pic of my car, then they are definitely 9" width. Those are the wheels that came with the Black Optic Plus package.

That is exactly what I have- the Black Optics Plus package. I guess the 5 double spoke wheels are the plus package over the regular Black Optics package. Most of the Black Optics cars that I've seen have had the Rotors and the black grill and trim. I like the wheels- they remind me of the 19s that I had on my old 2010 S5.
