    Need a windshield, OEM?

Driving son 2 (actually he was driving) to the airport we took a rock to the windshield. Iíll find out Monday if I get a freebie from Allstate but my question is about OEM vs fakes. Are there non OEM options? If so should I accept a non OEM windshield?
    Thx Rick

Sorry to hear/see. I've had non-OEM as free replacement on prior Audi and it worked out fine, but if you can get OEM I would go that route.

But they may be able to repair with injected resin if not too deep or fissured. I actually did so myself to my wife's Caddy a few years ago with dramatic improvement (ultimately got a new windshield however, just because).

My insurance's first question is always "is the crack larger than a dollar bill."

Doubt you could save much going with non-OEM as the part (8S8-845-099-AD-NVB) is less than $350 - see https://www.audiusaparts.com/oem-par...bC1sNS1nYXM%3D

On my previous 2015 TTS, there were no options but OEM glass which I want so my insurance paid for it. Windshield replaced twice while I had the car free. That was with State Farm. I have since switched to Progressive on the TTRS but nothing but minor chips so far....fingers crossed.

Sometimes it's State safety mandated, e.g. in MA you're entitled to one free windshield annually as needed [insurance paid regardless of underwriter]. I had one replaced years ago simply because due to commuting road construction it was so overall gravel-pitted that it made driving into low angle Sun dangerous.

Within a week of having my car I got a random crack across my entire windshield (no rock chip anywhere). Had to pay out of pocket for it since Audi said itís not anything to do with them. Saying that I went OEM and I wouldnít do it any other way.
