Anyone had the P0492 code before or have done seconday air system cleaning?

The P0492 code always popped up whenever I scanned my car but today, it finally triggered a CEL. I'm at 132K miles now. I was wondering if anyone has done the carbon cleaning themselves. I see that it's pretty labor intensive since the front end has to be removed but I've done that before so it's no big deal. However, for those who did the cleaning themselves, what did you use to do it? And can I just drive around with the CEL on until the spring time?

Dealership did my outside of warranty there's a tsb/recall for for it, done free of charge, with loaner. I believe two codes have to be on for your car to qualify but i may be wrong and one will do.

There's a TSB but only covers up to 120,000 miles though.

Do you happen to have the link to the TSB?

Also if your tuned they will deny it. I had this code come up, luckily turned out the hose for the system had somehow come disconnected and it was an easy fix.

In the process of thinking it was going to need cleaning I reached out to several independent shops and none of them could do it. Audi has specific tools and process for this.

    Good luck.

Which module would I need to scan in order for this code to appear? I do not have a CEL but my car has been exhibiting symptoms which seem to be in line with excessive carbon build-up.

The code shows up in the engine module on a fault scan. There are two kinds of carbon build up conflated in this thread. The 120k warranty extension covers SAI port clogging (P0492 and P0491 is SAI insufficient flow, a code for each bank) and is corrected by the dealer using high pressure water to clear out the air ports in the head. This clogging does not affect performance since it is simply an air injection into the exhaust port after start up to heat up the cats. The other kind of carbon build up is on the back side of the valves. This one does affect performance, and is corrected by cleaning the valves with walnut blasting, or chemical and a wire brush. I do not know if the valve build throws a code.
