What does MY17-20 means. What model years.

Planning on buying an A5 and found this:

Of Google Inc. Connect services are subject to technologies remaining ... and may not be available after 2021 for equipped MY17-20 vehicles.

Does this means model years 2017 to 2020? I thought it was the 2018 and earlier models and this is why some people are waiting for the 2019 modem.

Means model years 2017 thru 2020; i.e, the B9 A5 in your case. The B9s for 2017-2020 are designed with specific technology in place, in this case, Google. Whatever contract with Google that these technologies are designed for expires at the end of 2020, and whatever replaces it may not be compatible with any 2017-2020 vehicles.

MY usually means mid year. VW and Audi have a weird thing about releasing new cars and features mid model year.

The only concrete example I can think of is the MK4 Jetta which was released as a 1999.5 model in the US. In 04.5 VW added chrome trim and an updated trunk lid. You could get an 04 Jetta GLI with a VR6, 04.5 GLI with a 1.8T and a ton of other extras not on the 04. 05 GLI was the same as 04.5 then the MK5 was released as an 05.5 model.

It really screws with parts databases.

MY, w.r.t. automotive, about ALWAYS refers to model year. Never heard of mid-year. B7 was released as a 2005.5 but I have never EVER seen anything called "mid-year". MY = MODEL YEAR. Especially in this context, where for any A5 that is a 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (i.e., the B9 model range) are affected.
