    Shoddy seal?

Inside the engine bay near the wheel wells on both sides there is some compound spread across the seams. Was this a crappy seal job done by the factory or was it like a service bulletin or something the manufacturer recommended to seal them? Mine you can even see white paint drips down the side. Very sloppily done. I saw a few videos on YouTube of the B7 A4 and it appears everyone has some sort of thing going on there at the seams.

Seam sealed from the factory to prevent corrosion where they cant get entirely to it to paint. Take a pic though as it could be a bad cover up from an accident as well.
