    California Title lean release time

I bought a B8 Avant from California. It had a bank lien on it. In the Cali way of doing things, how long will it take the owner to get a clean title returned to him after paying off the bank load?

The car will be delivered tomorrow and I am curious how long I will be waiting for the title. Based on California government reputation I am afraid I may be waiting months. Can anyone provide me some kind of time table to expect? Thanks in advance

Did you buy it from an individual or a dealership?

Individual. Also. Does registration transfer with the car or is it terminated?

I don’t know how things work in California exactly, but in my state you would never buy a car from a private party with a lien, unless the title is accompanied with the lien release.

If a car has a lien you should have found out the buyout $$ and made 1 check payable to the lien holder for that amount and 2nd check for balance of purchase to individual.
Banks generally send a lien release out in just a few days or immediately if loan is paid off in person

In California they have an official DMV bill of sale form. I have that and the car. Cali just does things different.

I actually did send the money to the credit union holding the lien. My information is that the bank only holds an electronic title. That a lien release form is sent to DMV and a title sent out. In California I can see where that would take more than a couple of days

Here's hoping. The car is in the garage.
