A4 Allroad S-tronic B8 gearbox jerking and clutch slipping

    Hi,

I was advised to post here instead of A4 B8 area (Original post https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...arbox-problems).

I have an Audi A4 Allroad Quattro MY2010 with 7-speed S-tronic (0B5 7-Speed Dual Clutch in my understanding)

There have been some problems with the gearbox and Audi service diagnosed that the dual clutch was worn and it was replaced. After that they diagnosed that mechatronics should be changed also. Now both have been changed but I have a feeling that still it's not working as it should. I don't have another car with the same gearbox to test drive and compare but I'll try to find one to make some comparison. Maybe someone can help me before that - thanks!

So far after repairs I have noticed at least:
    - Now and then when driving rpm's randomly jumps strangely, mosty after/before gear change. No big jumps but I can notice them by looking the rpm needle.
    - When slowing down so that rpm's drop <1000 and then accelerating again, the RPM's jumps near 2000 rpm before car starts to accelerate. After that rpm's comes down a little bit (200 rpm) and then continues to increase again as supposed. Maybe the clutch is not engaged fast enough and that's why rpm's jumps and drop when engaging properly?
    - Sometimes when accelerating RPM's won't increase steadily
    - Sometimes when changing gear RPM's jumps just before the change
    - Kicks few times now and then when driving/changing gear/starting to drive
    - Manual mode changing down is rough
    - When driving steady speed RPM's variate back and forth about +/- one needle width
    - When driving steadily downhill and then takin foot off from the pedal, RPM’s drop fast little and then jumps up again. I'm wondering if this could be just loose in the axles.

Here is a video after slowing down and accelerating again. RPM's jumps to near 2000 and after that car starts to accelerate and rpm's drops 200 rpm and increases then again. Then just before changing to 3rd gear rpm's jumps a bit before coming down as expected.

    Any helpful thoughts?

I bet you are starting to see the signs of a bad gear selector sensor in the DSG. Mine did similar things as you mentioned. It would lose RPMs, mostly at high way merging speeds so harder acceleration. It would randomly skip gears. Every shift was harder than it should be. Down shifts in lower gears or at awkward low speeds were especially bad and rough.

I just had mine replaced. It was not cheap. It requires about $1500 in parts, there is a TSB out there for it, and another $2-3k in labor as you have to pull the transmission from the car, pull the transmission apart, fish the new sensor and loom in and, then reassemble the tranny and reinstall it in the car.

    IT SUCKED!

Oh that really sucks. My car was at the dealer for this week to do test driving. They said that it's not working as it should but their findings were not as severe as mine. They want to take the gearbox out and do some measurements and check if the new clutch pack would have a manufacturing defect etc.

There is no any error codes so the TSB won't match at leat yet.

Is there any recommendations what to ask them to check before putting the gearbox back? Now that it will be taken off it would be nice to check out every possible problem before putting it back.

I was talking to an audi tech, the one who did mine whose also a friend. He said the 2010 A4 Allroads dont have dsg. Lease not in the states... I could be wrong, but you may have some other issue.

This is European version and it has DSG/S-tronic. I think it's this https://www.auto-data.net/en/audi-a4...-s-tronic-4287

I'm wondering could it be oil pump or external oil filter that is not replaceable in this 1st gen model of the gearbox.

I found a suggestion to clean the filter by flushing it in reverse direction. Have to ask would they do it at the dealer or could it be fully replaced.

Car was now at the dealer and they changed clutched again. And then they said it's working as expected. In my opinion it's not. Here is again video of floating rpm and other issues.

So is this really normal for S-tronic that is working as expected.

Did you find the problem? My Q5 has excatly the same symptoms. Did mech repair kit, all the needed adaptations and it didnt help at all, i think it may gone even worse with the new solenoids..

Had the same symptoms - they replaced the mechatroic pcb’s and all the solenoids and it’s absolutely perfect again.

Just realised you are Norway based? How cold is it there now? I know somewhere on this forum some guys in Canada were talking about some DSG issues in extreme cold weather.

Id doesn't matter if it's +20 C or -10 C same problems. Little worse when gearbox is cold.

Solution -import a used zf 8 speed from the USA, install it and forget about the nightmares of dsg ownership ever again)
