    Coolant Leak - Thermostat

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I have a coolant leak coming from the front of the motor. I was told it was the thermostat but I figure, if I am right there, might as well do the water pump as well!

So, since Ill be doing those 2 things at a minimum. While in there is there anything else while the supercharger is off that I should take care of?

    PCV? Catch-Can?

Pcv 100% and coolant crossover pipe. Also if you have really bad carbon buildup you could get it cleaned. Also make sure you don't have any signs of sc intercooler leaks.

By crossover pipe you mean the front one that runs along the front of the motor?

And I will check on my PCV. I believe the previous owner, a friend, had updated that system already once before... only 20k miles ago.

Has anyone seen lower oil consumption post install of a oil catch can?

Does t really answer my question, a lot of those links are other motors. First time I have ever seen a recommendation to change that pipe.

I thought it was pretty well known that this was a fairly brittle piece of plastic and has been known to crack.

I canít say Iíd for sure replace it, but Iíd definitely have one handy. On the other hand, I havenít seen it for $66 before and it would be worth it IMO.

Ill grab that piece, a thermostat, water pump and, im gonna check the PCV before I order everything to see if I need to replace that.

Ill have the carbon cleaning done and I wanna make sure the intercoolers in the SC arent going or leaking.

I am debating on tackling part of things myself or having a shop do it...

Itís kinda all or nothing for those 4 items. They are all within half a square foot of each other Once the SC is off. I think you can do it without service position but itís tight, especially when taking off the SC belt and getting the water pump pulley off.

I had to remove the vacuum pump, be careful there. I inadvertently unscrewed some set screw and blew 3 liters of oil out of the car when I started it.

    Thanks!

I just txted the previous owner and my buddy. He did the PCV and a Carbon Cleaning at 75k, car has 93k now. So I will check them both, but I dont expect to do them this time around.

I will def replace the water pump and thermostat cause i dont know which is leaking, and I will def replace that front plastic pipe as well.

The plastic pipe I'm referring to is actually down under the blower and sits right above the PCV

Confirmed my leak is just the T-stat.

Ill buy those pipes, the t-stat and, then maybe a new crank pulley and MercRacing HX. Get a few more ponies.

If it's the original waterpump, change it as well. Crossover pipe, tstat, water pump, pcv. All in one go. Maybe do super charger oil as well.
