RS7 to Panamera, so long...for now.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It's been a good ride with the Audi brand for the last decade or so and many Audi vehicles later... it's time to move on.
Since Audi has refused to offer up a wagon, i'm going with a Panamera Sport Turismo 4S. Turbo is out of my price range, crazy price! One day soon though
I need one car that can do it all, from family demands as well as fun drives when time permits.
I also had an eye on a E63S wagon and while it was really close, the Porsche just did it for me. While both cars are amazing, the only car i would regret not getting was the Panamera Sport Turismo.
Picking it up next weekend, very excited to get into the Porsche ecosphere for awhile.
Will probably be back down the road at some point if Audi ever brings over an RS6 Wagon.
    cheers all.

    Congrats on the new car!!

There are talks of Audi bringing an A6 Allroad for the 2020 model year, this then means they would be able to bring the RS6. My guess is by 2022 we will have an RS6 Wagon here.

Enjoy the new vehicle! Its beautiful.

Looks awesome! I am looking to get a used 17 or 18 Panamera Turbo. Not the Sport Turismo but Im starting to get really excited. Really curious after you pick it up and drive it for a while, how you like it? I have looked at some 4s's and loved the car but just wanted a little more in the engine department. So have now shifted to getting a used Turbo. Looks soooo good buddy!

thanks getting excited as well, delivery this upcoming weekend. a nice 4 hour trip home to test it out, should be enlightening.
i've realized that i don't really need the turbo as i rarely push it hard in the RS7 now and because porsche pricing is insane, the 4S is the sweet spot for me right now.
maybe after a few years i'll yearn for a V8 TT again, will see.
thanks, will make a note here when i get some seat time.

Congrats on your purchase. The Panamera will be high on my list of replacment vehicles if they never bring an A6/RS6 wagon to the states soon. I gave up a wagon to go with this S6 (which I love) but wagons were my first love and I have just never gotten over them.

curious as to whether the wagon has more usable space than the rs7. Sounds like somebody just wanted a new toy. Good for you. Lets us know the comparison down the road.

Total cargo volume is identical to the RS7 with the seats down but less in the trunk with seats up. Sounds good to me.
Always wanted a nice wagon, this fits the bill nicely.

Huge congrats. Porsche has knocked it out of the park with this version of the Panamera - and I would also be potentially looking at one of these as my RS7 replacement, since the RS wagons are not coming to the states anytime soon.

I see some sport turismo turbos already 25% of MSRP -- so either going to wait for that price to come down under 100 OR pick up a 4S / GTS.

I would be very curious of your review and feedback on this as soon as you pick her up!! Please post more pics as well.

It does not, not even close as the trunk space on the Turismo and Panamera is very very small. Unusable according to my wife who drives it.

yet with seats down, identical cargo room. 49 for each.
maybe that means more room for passengers in the back compared to the RS7.
I know getting in and out of the back of the RS7 is a bit tight, certainly for wedging a toddler into their car seat it is!

That’s true. I have a 6 month old and finagling the car seat in and out or trying to put him in it and fasten him up is a bit of a pain especially in tight parking areas. I considered switching to an E63 wagon but was gonna take too much of a bath I couldn’t justify it.

Nice ride. Have fun and we’ll see you when you get back in an Audi.

I really think an RS6 would look better in my garage.... still the best looking wagon. Congrats though, the Porsche Panamera is a special car. You are going to miss the RS7 exhaust note and smooth power delivery though.

I do miss the engine in the RS7, but i won't miss the miserable fuel economy. :)

So i picked it up this weekend and a few impressions so far.

It looks bigger than the RS7 by a lot! Even though the specs say it's just an inch longer and an inch wider, seems like more. Porsche did a great job with the design, i love the rear hip area, so wide and meaty, 315 winter tires!
Interior tech is pretty damn nice, a few levels above the audi for sure but then the RS7 tech is getting pretty old at this point in time.
You can really feel the ~100hp and torque loss compared to the RS7. The sound is also lacking given the V6 engine in the panny.
It's not slow but its certainly not the beast of an engine. Looking forward to better fuel economy though.
The back passenger doors are much bigger/longer and the back seat is much more spacious compared to the RS7 and this is one of the main reasons i picked this vehicle.
I need more room for toddlers and another addition to come in the future. The RS7 was just too impractical for kids and the panamera ST is so much nicer and easier to get kids in and out of. whew
Most importantly, the driving. I haven't had a chance to do any spirited drives but i can already tell the handling is more precise and direct, not soft or sloppy at all compared to the RS7.
All in all, a good step up in quality and driving dynamics, and it also looks amazing. One of those cars you keep looking back at when walking away :)
Cheers all, will check in here from time to time.

Glad you're happy, and agreed re: looks. It's amazing what a few nips and tucks did for that car's looks. Also helps that the design brief didn't include adequate rear headroom for a 6' 7" CEO this time! ;-)

I've ensured that every car I've purchased is faster than the previous one, so I'd have a hard time giving up that power, but to each their own.

Enjoy those looks, that tech and the handling!

panamara is a nice car but let's be real, it's a downgrade from a RS7 in all aspects. It's almost 2019 how do you not have a HUD? We have kids too, 5 and 2, getting them in and out wasn't a chore. After cross shopping the E63s, RS7, and even the M5 the Panamara doesn't even hold a decent value proposition for an all around great car against them.

If you like it that's all that matters. :)

I've ensured that every car I've purchased is faster than the previous one, so I'd have a hard time giving up that power, but to each their own.
Enjoy those looks, that tech and the handling!
the power downgrade is definitely noticeable but i didn't use the RS7 to it's potential anyways, so it was wasted on me.

After cross shopping the E63s, RS7, and even the M5 the Panamara doesn't even hold a decent value proposition for an all around great car against them.
If you like it that's all that matters. :)
um no. the only downgrade from the RS7 is the engine. everything else is superior in the Porsche.
no HUD? maybe you are confusing it with another vehicle. of course you can get it with hud.
transmission, handling, interior, tech, design etc... all vastly superior imo so in my books it's a winner.
just like the RS7, it's not for everyone but it works for me very well. :)

Well in all fairness the panamara didn't have an option for a HUD until 2019 model so I guess that's progress. I just find it odd they are so late to the game considering they have it on the cayenne. either way it's a gorgeous car still.

Congrats on the pickup and thank you for the write up.

    Few questions:

Does the car feel larger driving (vs RS7)? I know that looking over the hood of the Panamera always made it 'feel' much larger to me.

Also - does the car feel any more tight or claustrophobic in the front seats? I felt like that about the old Panameras - and I know that they try to emulate the 'sports' car cockpit by doing so - but made it somewhat annoying by having that in such a large car.

How are the blind spots (or lack thereof)? Previous panny made it very difficult to see out of (for me).

And please post up more pictures!!

Almost but not quite. Whenever the new model came out (971) HUD was an option so either 2017 or 2018.
sounds like you test drove the 970 version and yes, it was ugly and not appealing vs the RS7.

    Answers:
It does feel larger i think because it is larger, although it is almost 300lbs lighter. It definitely handles a lot better for such a big vehicle, had lots of fun doing a mountain pass drive home from the dealer through rain, snow and sunshine.
The front seats have more of a locked-in cockpit feel to them which i really like personally. If you want a ton of open space, you probably wouldn't like it.
For a smallish wagon the blind spots are definitely there, but with park assist it isn't really an issue. You get 360degree video all around. If you only use mirrors, it will be challenging.
More pics when i have time!! :)
