Is the 2012-2013 2.5 TTRS motor a timing chain or belt and does it need replacing? Is this an interference engine or not?

    Thanks

Chain, and I would assume its an interference engine almost all modern engines are.

What is the usual cost to have it replaced by someone reputable to make sure it is done right?

The timing chain generally requires less frequent replacement compared to a timing belt, but it's always a good idea to check your specific vehicle's maintenance schedule.
As for whether it's an interference engine, yes, it is. So keeping an eye on the timing chain and following the recommended maintenance intervals is key to keeping your engine running smoothly.

my 2012 GTI 2.0FSI "CCTA" timing chain interval was 80k mi-- you need to replace the much-recalled tensioner if it has never been done, plus guides etc. IIRC the parts kit at ECS tuning (OEM) was $800 something and the install is tedious because you need to glue the chain cover on etc; most shops this will be $1200 in labor maybe a bit more. Not a driveway job typically Lol

my 2012 TTS has the EA-113/K04 2.0TFSI but it has a belt; belt interval is the same, 80-90k.

history of the TFSI engine here so you can look up your engine code: https://eeuroparts.com/blog/audi-2-0...omplete-guide/
