Put new ignition coils and spark plugs in it and you should be good to go. If it was a fuel injector you would get a code for a fuel injector fault.

They're a weak point for these motors, luckily they aren't stupidly expensive.

It seems like the coil pack problem is an on-going issue. My car was checked again two weeks ago when it was in for another issue...

My girlfriend's Tiguan also has a 2.0T and has had coil packs fail twice during its 45k mile life. The second time was last week and they allegedly replaced them with an "upgraded version," whatever that means (we weren't helped by a service advisor, it was a salesman) so hopefully it fixes the problem more permanently.

Yes the coils are a week point but there are 5 things that can cause a misfire. 1 ignition coil 2 spark plug 3 fuel injector (no it does not throw a fault for faulty injector, only misfires will register) 4 low compression caused from an internal issue 5 carbon build up on intake valves. Vag com will assist in diagnosing exactly what the problem is, read misfires on individual cylinders and swap coils, plugs, and if possible injectors until it moves that way you are not wasting money.

    Definitely could be fuel-related.

I am dealing with a very similar issue -- random misfire codes; a couple times, experienced acceleration hesitation accompanied by a flashing CEL.

First thing I did was to replace all coils and spark plugs. Still got a misfire code now and then. Took it to the shop where they ran some logging and came to a preliminary diagnosis pointing to either a bad injector or fuel filter issue. Sent me home with two bottles of Amsoil Performance Improver fuel additive and told me to continue logging group 107 (A/F control test) at idle over the next two tanks (wanted to make certain errors weren't related to bad gas before replacing expensive parts). According to the shop, I should see a group 107 value close to 0; I am logging a value around 14% consistently.

Car back to the shop to begin diagnosing fuel system once car is fixed from being t-boned.

    Good luck with yours!

I had the same exact thing, changed the coils and plugs, still had some misfires (but less frequently), cleaned the valves and now it runs like absolute butter.

If your intake valves are gunked up then it can't get enough air to mix with the fuel and messes the mixture up. I was noticing it mostly during the first 30s of starting the car which is when it runs richer than usual to get the car warmed up.

Every one please be advised if you are trying to replace a fuel injector you must use a special tool to replace the Teflon seals on the injector. If you dot have a faulty plug or coil your best bet is to let the dealer diagnose and possibly replace the faulty component.

I had the same issue. Ended up being a failed seal on my #2 injector. Dealer replaced under the extended 10yr/100k warrant on the injectors.

Here's my situation. Today my car started shaking on the freeway when I accelerated and the engine light flashed. Got off the freeway and took back roads and slowly drove it home. Scan showed codes P0300 (random multiple misfires), P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire), and P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire). I then replaced the coil packs and cleaned MAF and that didnt fix it. I replaced my spark plugs 11 months ago & PCV 5 months ago, so I doubt that's the problem. The shaking and codes dont start right away, it starts after I've been driving for about 15 minutes or so. My car is a 2010 with 86,000 miles on it. I've already had the oil consumption issue fixed and turbo replaced under warranty. Should I take it to the dealership just in case its something that is covered under one of the other extended warranties (fuel injectors, timing chain, etec)?

it may be worth paying just the diagnostic fee to find out .. But it is Audi so they are going to rape you even for just that ...

Nope, starts up just fine. Idles pretty good also, seems to only shutter/shake during acceleration after the engine is warmed up.

Shop said the cause of the P0300 (random multiple misfires), P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire), and P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire) are a broken spark plug... and there is a lot of carbon build up. I'm kinda pissed at myself for not checking the spark plugs myself. Since I changed them only 11 months ago, I assumed they were OK.

I spent 2 months chasing the misfire on my Audi A5 2009. New spark plugs, new coils, wiring., misfire continued until I put new injector on cylinder 4 and that fixed the problem. Even if you go cheap and have them cleaned it may not fix the issue. $150 for the new injector.
