Donít know whatís goin on but all of a sudden out of blue pops up a steering issue Iím having. Fluid is fine with no leaks. No codes. Sheís runnin wonderfully other then my steering being tight & not wanting to come back out of turn. Did steering wheel swap but thatís been months ago. Just feels weird. Definitely not the smooth Audi steering Iíve grown accustom to.
    HELP!
    Please

Okay so I was having this issue with my '13 Allroad this summer; intermittent notchy steering, very heavy steering wheel, sometimes not returning to its "0" position on its own, etc. Intermittent became constant, to the point where I was about to take my car in to the dealership to have them take a look. I kinda knew that these B8/B8.5's were sometimes affected by some steering issues so I wasn't that worried, but it was really starting to bother me.

I was about to go on vacation, so I told myself that I would either take a look at it myself when I got back, or bring it in to the dealer. I got back from my week long vacation, and the steering was absolutely perfect. No more notchy-ness, nice and smooth, no issues whatsoever. Its been like this for over a month now and the issue hasn't come back.

I just took a look through the linked thread above about greasing the u-joint, and it seems alot of people have had this same issue and had success with lubing the u-joint. My question is, why did my issue go away? I read some people talking about possibly resetting the power steering module with VAG, could mine have somehow been "reset" or "recalibrated" since it wasn't driven for a week? Did the hot summer months have something to do with it? When I got back from vacation there were still some hot days where my car was parked in my work parking lot all day, so I'm not sure this is the cause.

Basically, I'm just perplexed that the issue sorted itself out. I'm not too worried, if the issue does come back, I will definitely looking into lubing up the u-joint. Any thoughts?

^^^ your 13 Allroad should have electric steering while OP's 2012 has hydraulic. Your issue is probably totally different

The first year of electric steering was 2013 and there were some common issues. Try searching for them. I'm not sure if Audi offered an extended warranty on the electric steering issues or not.

In the linked thread below, the OP mentions that he "found out i dont have a power steering fluid reservoir so i'm assuming it's electronic", and was able to remedy his problem by lubing the u-joint apparently?
