I found a 2009 a4 b8 with about 118,000 miles and I know about these engnes and that they can have the oil consumption problem. now this car is out of warranty private seller when I asked them about it they said that they did a oil change recently and nothing came up now error message. now I want to know do all engines have this problem? could this car not have this problem? If I go and check out the car how can I see that it might be burning oil ? scan ecu? check tail pipe? Thanks

That MY at the very least would require:

    Timing chain/tensioner/guides upgrade
    Engine de-carb
    Water pump replaced
    High pressure fuel pump replaced

Look for a charred tail pipe. Put your finger in there (after it's cooled) and see if there is oil residue inside the exhaust pipe. I'd be surprised if there wasn't.

Get the vin and verify with Audi that the stage 2 oil consumption fix was done. If it hasnít been, move along and keep looking for another car.

If I take it to a audi dealership or a mechanic in general and do a compression test will that show if theres a oil consumption

Not the case. Oil rings are separate from compression ring.

So you could buy this one with 90k miles. ;-)

At least then you'd candidly know what's currently wrong with it.

    Cheers!

I would take a pass on any used B8 if the oil consumption has not been addressed no matter if the car has low km or how well the owner took care of it.Its like a ticking time bomb.
