AEB needs a turbo, would AMB fit?

    Hello,

The turbo in my AEB needs replaced. I found one that is from an AMB GH motor, will it fit without modification?

    Many thanks

According to europaparts.com and buyautoparts.com they are the same so looks like I'm going to be lucky.
I will post the outcome once it is done just to confirm in case anyone else wants to know.

There is no "k03s" it's called a k03-073, and in North America, there are no factory k03-073 installed on any b5 or b6, most common is k03-029.

Ok fine, you provided more detail but it's basically the sportier version of the older k03. It's referred to as the k03s in the most simplist case. And prove that they aren't installed in any b5 my b5.5 has the k03s with the bigger compressor housing and my b6 had the same one.

Iíll retract my statement if you can provide proof. Otherwise just believe what you want to.

Here in the US, we got stuck with the lame K03-029, which is directly comparable to the plain ole K03 used on transversal. Making matters worse, a lot of longitudinal engines got the K03-005. That one is really lame. Puny. So the K04 is like three levels up from that base one.

Im not saying you are wrong. I didn't provide the detail. He asked a simple question and I gave a simple answer but I guess it wasn't sufficient enough. You won I lost.

This isn't a competition, this is a common misconception that people have.

I'm sorry if I came across as a dick, but I have had this discussion so many times and everyone claims that it exists but no one has provided any proof.

I'm honestly requesting proof if someone can provide it in North America because until someone provides it, I'll believe that it only exists elsewhere.

AEB was equipped with a K03-005.

USA ATW/AWM/AMB was equipped with a different turbo: called a K03-029, which has a slightly improved hot side flow (+5mm turbine size) and the wastegate flappers fail less often. Cold side is unchanged from the 005.

The "029" is the better of the 2 available USA stock turbos for the 1.8T longitudinal. While the even-better European "K03-073" more officially carries the K03 Sport name, there is enough "incorrect" usage of the term amongst the US Audi scene that there is generally no confusion about what somebody is referring to when they use that term.

    K03-005
    Compressor Size: 36/50mm
    Turbine Size: 36/45mm

    K03-029
    Compressor Size: 36/50mm
    Turbine Size: 40/45mm

    K03-073
    Compressor Size: 38/51mm
    Turbine Size: 40/45mm

    K04-015
    Compressor Size: 38/51mm
    Turbine Size: 42/46mm
