Thank you! I love details and most of the things people wouldn't even notice. Check out ebay.de for the visors. Use a translator and make sure the seller ships to the US and you will save quite a bit over new. The one's I purchased were used but would have passed as new!

For sure. I've ordered a few parts off ebay.de before. Just never knew about the euro visors until I saw yours.

So that is extendable? When you swing it to the side you can extend it to the edge of the window? If so that's awesome, one of my biggest pet peeves with the car especially living here in AZ. Shoot I noticed they don't have it in grey.

By the way I absolutely love WA. My wife's from Everett. We drove all around the Olympic Natl Forest, Whidbey Island, did the Staircase hike near Mt. Baker, drove to Whistler etc etc... unfortunately in a rental car though.

Sooo Many Winding Roads...what a fun place to drive! So much so that next time we're going for over two weeks and I'm driving my S4 there.

The one's I got are not extendable. I tried to find what the differentiating factor was between the two but could not. It does not seem to be in the part number. It worked out for me since I have never used the sliding option. Is your headliner grey? Go on ebay.de there is a plethora of grey ones. Yes WA is absolutetly wonderful! A little bit of everything... Mountains, ocean, forest. Alot of good driving roads up towards bellingham. You should come up during the leavenworth cruise the drive is really something else.

    ECS Oil Dipstick

Ended up getting an ECS dipstick. Upon checking my oil the past few times I got some mixed results through the MMI. Once it said full then I checked it about 5 mins later and it said about a quarter below. Decided it was time to just check it the old school way. The quality on the ECS piece is extremely nice. The aluminum also compliments the other aluminum bits I added.

I saw someone here post pictures with Peelers that were given a darker color, not black, but some darker grey or something, it looked fricken amazing. I would totally recommend it. I saw blue carbon interior trim pieces posted here or on Ocarbon’s Facebook page, and that would look pretty sweet too.

Not sure if the linking will work, but an example of their blue carbon. It’s more subtle than I remember, but that might be what you want.

Dipstick looks good. Surprised you went with silver in lieu of black to match your optics package.

Thanks James. I did silver as the two R8 caps had the same silver on the so tied in pretty well. We'll see how I feel a bout it down the road!

I am def keeping an eye out for wheel options. I hate these one's I currently have! Idk about the blue carbon. Seems like a subtle touch but being as ocarbons reviews lately have been terrible I would look to avoid that headache

Sure, but now you have options to concider, and an idea if you might like the look or not. I think a matte dark color, possibly metallic for peelers or maybe even rotors would compliment the color and retain a level of OEM-ness. Good luck, this looks amazing.

I think you're right in that regard the color of the wheels will have to be on the darker end. Hoping for a set of stock S5 rotors, that is the goal. Thanks alot. More to come!

    AWE/BMC Intake

Did alot of research in terms of an intake. I knew I wanted something more than OEM but seeing all the solution out there nothing really was "Perfect" so to say. Alot of the intakes are cheaply made, wiggling heat shields ugly intake tubes. I decided I was going to put something together. I really do like the way our air-box is set up it looks really good in my eyes. I ended up ordering an entire AWE kit. Included carbon pieces, filter intake tube. I sold everything but the intake tube lol. I didn't like the way the carbon looked at all in the engine bay. I loved the inconspicuous look of the intake tube and the fact it was smooth really cleaned up the look over OEM.

After I installed just the AWE intake tube it opened up the sound but I wanted just a tad more. From the get go I did not want raw overwhelming sound of the roc euro intakes. I searched around for a filter that would compliment the intake tube and fit in the OEM air-box. Randomly watching some youtube videos I saw that the the 991 Porsche GT3 RS uses a BMC filter from factory. I figured if its good enough for Porsche its good enough for our cars. Ordered a BMC filter from ECS. It arrived in a few days, went ahead and installed it. I can say I am very happy with this setup. Perfect amount of whine down low between about 2-3k RPM very classy and very OEM+ setup.

Great build so far, you're attention to detail is exactly what I like in a build thread. I'm contemplating an intake myself so your latest post is perfect, is the BMC filter that you purchased a drop in filter for an OEM set up?

Thanks alot. The details are what is most important to me. Yes the BMC filter is direct replacement into our intake box. It has the two retaining holes for the same OEM screws. Very nice fit and seems to be a quality piece.

Loving the build so far! I also recently purchased a 2015 S4 (Black, Red/Black interior, black optics, 35k). Very similar ideas for mods and equally as meticulous.

I can't read the ECS dipstick on mine. The shiny tip makes it hard to see unless you have dark oil. I keep the oem one in now unless I'm going to show the car.

Most definitely not as easy to read as OEM. You have to hold it at an angle sort of! I hate the yellow color of the OEM unit which swayed me away. I have heard some guys keep it plugged and have a stick in the garage, utilizing as needed.

Exactly what I do. Leave the factory plug "plugged", and have the actual dipstick in my trunk for quick inspections on-the-go.

One of the horror stories below...

Your ECS one is 100% of quality and durability, AKO...but things do happen!

That is my back up plan. I haven't noticed a hard time reading it now. That is a great idea however.

Oh yes I read that on my search for a stick. I figured maybe an aftermarket company made a black plastic top with orange bottom. Turned me off after I read that.

I am happy with the ECS unit for now. Will keep an update on long term durability and usability.

Question regarding Intake performance without a tune. I've heard (not necessarily w/ S4's) that changing the intake/air flow of the car can 1) throw a code 2) damper the performance because the ecu doesn't know what to do with the increased air flow. Any feedback/experiences with this?

If not grabbing myself a BMC filter and a S-Flo intake asap!

I have heard the same a few times but its hard to believe with today's ECU's. They are able to adapt so well and are so advanced a higher flowing filter should not be an issue. However speaking on that I am stage 1 with EPL so I cant say for sure how the car would react being on stock tune. I am almost certain you would not lose any performance. I am sure there is someone out there with a full on intake and no tune that can chime in.

Ditto what Anel said. I have had a Roc-Euro intake installed long before I went with an ECU tune. The adaptation capabilities the ECU's have in these cars is more than enough to account for the slight increase in air flow the filters / CAI provides.

I figured as much but that's great to hear. Looks like I'll be ordering an intake next week.

    Thanks guys.

    New Drivers Airbag

Ever since I purchased the car there was a small ding on the last ring of the Audi emblem. Bothered me to no end lol especially due to being right in the field of vision.

Removal of the bag is alot harder in my opinion than any of the DIY's explain it to be. I mean this does apply to almost all DIY's lol. Word of wisdom, I would make sure you have a second set of hands to pull the airbag away from the wheel as you actuate the spring on the back. All you will need is to telescope the wheel all the way out and a medium flat head screw driver.

Definitely a decent amount of money. I don't think it will happen again though. I spoke with James (Solarsuplex) about it and it most likely happened when the PO swung the seat belt off. I exit very calmly lol

Oil Change & Interval Service Warning Change

One of the things I was really excited for when I purchased the S4 were easy oil changes. With the filter being on top and easily accessible my plan was to you purchase an oil extractor. This would allow for 10 minute oil changes and not having to go under the car. I still plan to drop the oil from the drain bolt every 3 changes or so just to make sure the extractor is getting everything. Started off by doing some research on which extractor to buy I looked at quite a few options. Main difference I saw were some had to be hand pumped others could be connected to an air compressor to assist in quicker extraction. Next thing was size. Our cars take about 7 qts of oil so I was planning on extracting about that amount. With a smaller extractor size comes into question since you would have to extract once, dump the oil and go back and extract again. This could be alleviated with a larger unit but then you are sacrificing size and storage when not in use. I narrowed down my choice to the EWK Pneumatic/Manual 6.5 Liter unit. I placed my order on amazon at the time they had a sale going on and I was able to grab one for $60.

When the unit showed up I was able to get my hands on it, I could tell it was a quality piece. The plastic was hefty and thick which allowed for it to stand on its own even when empty. Alot of the units I researched tended to topple over even on a flat surface. Next step was debadging the container lol. Had a few stickers I peeled off for a clean look.

I went ahead and ordered Liqui Moly Leichtlauf Synthetic High Tech Engine Oil (5w-40) one 5L jug and two 1L cases to accompany. I also went with an OEM filter as well. One more item I needed was an 36mm socket to remove the oil filter. '

    Items used

    • EWK Oil Extractor
    • 7L Liqui Moly Leichtlauf Synthetic (5w-40) Engine oil
    • 36mm 3/8 Socket
    • 12 inch 3/8 Ratchet
    • 3/8 Extension
    • Sharp Pick Tool
    • 2 Gallon Air Compressor
    • VCDS

The rest is pretty straightforward. I started by driving the car around a bit to get it up to temp. This allows for much easier suction. It also helps that my driveway is at a decent slop and the dipstick is near to the front of the pan. I removed my dipstick and inserted one of the two hose attachments down into the oil pan. I attached the air compressor hose to the fitting on the extractor and opened the oil cap for easier extraction. I let the unit do rest of the work. In the mean time while it was sucking the oil I replaced the filter. One thing to note is when you have the filter off dont forget to replace the rubber gasket on the lower portion of the piece which the filter cap attaches too. Easy to miss as it is dark and the gasket is very thin.

From there I let the extractor finish up the extraction. I was able to get all of the oil in one try. slightly below 7 qts I would say. Good way to confirm you got the oil out is pour a bit of the new oil in and when you see it coming through the clear hose you know there isn't anymore old oil. It is easy to see the difference.

I went ahead and dumped the contents of the extractor into a bigger jug which I use to dispose of the oil at my local auto parts store. Next I poured in roughly 7qts of the fresh oil in. Sealed everything up made sure the filter was on tight and a job well done. I started the engine up and let it run for a bit. I parked the car on a level surface and let the engine cool down and took a final measurement. I needed to add just a touch of oil which put me right below the full mark on my ECS dipstick and the same was shown on the MMI unit.

Next and final step I changed the oil and service warning message to go off at 5k miles as I did not plan on waiting for the suggested 10k mile oil changes Audi recommended. This was easily done via VCDS. I went in and cleared the SRI which in turn brought up the option of changing the length between changes. I put the new value at 8k km which is roughly 5k miles.

How did you go about disabling your passenger occupancy/airbag light? I've seen a few people pull it apart and put some electrical tape in there but was curious if you had another method.

I did it the same way and it works flawlessly. I ordered a european hazard switch which I am hoping to retrofit in. The switch alone triggers an airbag code. So there is some wiring that needs to be done. For now I am happy with the way it is.
