    Tune question

Looked at a 2001.5 s4 guy selling the car told me the previous owner tuned the car himself. He called the tune a demon file. The car supposedly has frankenturbos, apr diverter valves and that is it. The thing that seemed weird was the maf was unplugged. It idled fine, drove ok (the clutch is on its last leg). Has anyone ever tuned a car where the maf sensor wasn't used or needed?

no and i bet as soon as you plug it in it will run like crap, just a guess, but when you have a major vacuum leak such as a boost hose it will idle like crap and die out sometimes, unplug the maf and it runs on a sort of default tune. does it make boost? if it does it shouldn't be over 5psi

Your best bet is to get the proper supporting mods for the turbos and get the car tuned by a competent tuner.

I questioned it cause the maf does need to be plugged in due to metering incoming air for fueling. He did have a fault code for maf low flow. I'm debating keeping my cactus s4 or his black one. After driving his it's looking more like I'll keep mine and work on fixing it up (body work only)

Car probably has a bad MAF. these cars run pretty good without a MAF, as they rely more on the MAP/EGTs andO2s for fueling.

Sounds like he got a tune off nefmoto and stuck it on there.

they rely heavily on the maf, the o2's are narrow band and only good for cruising and lean/not lean, for anything but the default tune (limp mode tune) it needs the mass air flow to meter the air. if it had widebands then yes it could relay on just the o2's

They are semi-wide band. Unplug your maf and go for a drive it probably wont even throw a code.
